Why is Splash Mountain NEVER working?

Yeah, I miss the leaping water. In fact, I had forgotten about it until I read this post, but that was a really cool effect. I only go on it every couple of years, so I don't notice the stuff everyone else does. I did notice when I rode a couple of weeks ago that the turtle on his back didn't have water coming out, so it looks kind of stupid with a turtle stuck on top of a pole. Come on guys!!! That's just lax, and not the quality we pay for when we go to WDW.

I've never had problems with SM myself. Other rides i have though, such as the crashing car at Epcot didn't work before you go towards the doors. Sometimes its a disappointment, but as long as you bare in mind technical failures always occur and can't always be immediately fixed. Its always better the ride is running 99% than Disney closing it to change the minor details most don't notice anyway (except us addicts ofc.!). ANyway thats what i remind myself when i see something not workng!

this is the only problem I have ever seen on the ride. the AA always have worked for us. because I have magical powers. or so I like to think.....

ps stingrock23, I TOTALLY dig your avaitor! Seriously, every time I watch that skit, I tear up from laughing so hard!

Those 'leapfrog' fountains made a great contribution to the sheer hilarity of the laughing place! The only time I experienced them was during a trip back in 2000.

I'm going back in mid-February. Any chance they will be working again?

I'm a CM at Splash and yes sometimes things aren't always working properly and there are many reasons for that happening. If anyone has questions feel free to PM me.

I was a former CM from Jan to June last year at Splash and there were always maintenence problems going on. Any kind of mechanics are going to have problems now and then. The "million dollar bunny" one of the neatest effects on the ride which is the bouncing brer rabbit was down from like march to june while i was there. It is just very expensive to fix and maintain. And interestingly, while it was broken and I'm sure it is this way everytime it breaks down, it is still in the ride itself. When riding through the scene if you look back it is still there. As to the person who said the ride isn't complicated. Ha! It is crazy. Because there is the walkway the entire length of the ride with people making them think they can get out, argh, the security system is intense with tons of cameras. And the track loops around itself. It drove me so nuts during down times when we would work our butts of trying to fix the ride for 48 logs each holding 8 people, with the 80 minute line of people. We would have to reset every single lift and every single drop and it would all have to be coordinated together and entered into the splash tower in order going backwards. While running, which is a safety issue for us, we would have to deal with the idiots who claim they have to use the bathroom, miss their reservations, yada yada yada, and it was so stressful on our parts. The logs way 2000 pounds and having to pull the logs in the finale scene so the people can get out and not be stranded in the water was incredibly hard. I once had to coordinate a pull from the steamboat back to the last drop, at the same time dealing with all the boats in front of them screaming at me to let them out. Anyway it is an amazing yet COMPLICATED ride with all different factors coming into play in one building

The gum that plagued the ride itself seems to have been magically transported to the queue line.

When I was there a week ago I noticed an unusually large amount of _old_ gum stuck to the rocks in the queue just before you enter the logs.

It appeared as if several families decided this was a good gum depository. Disgusting.

p.s. Where are these people getting gum?

Parents: Please, I know your children are angels... but please, please refrain from bringing gum with you into the parks and giving it to them. As angelic as a kid may be, if he or she feels the need to dispose of gum, AND some kid (usually a mindless teenager) has already not disposed of a piece correctly, the small children WILL put theirs in the same spot. By just refraining from giving kids gum while in the park we will all be helping to keep it nasty free.

Sure, why not take their food away and get it over with... But seriously, there are better ways of keeping the place clean... Disney could place trash cans at spots where it seems to get dirty! And not all teenagers are mindless! --> :D <--

Usually I'm so wrapped up in wanting to take EVERYTHING in on that ride that if something isn't working properly I can't catch it unless it's TERRIBLY obvious. The only thing I noticed wasn't working the past 2 times I've gone is in the queue. Brer Frog's shadow in the rocking chair wasn't in that little alcove as you wind your way down the final ramp to the loading area. I've missed it!!

Is this something they've done away with, or that was just a fluke b/c of my bad WDW luck?
