Hello all. I've been absent for like 6 months so Im wayyy out of the loop :) We are going to be at WL for 3 days this Wed - Fri. I know its presidents week and the park hours are crazy and supposedly its always mad crowded. But why? Dont most people only have off MOnday? I guess they take the whole week? Also, could anyone just let me know if any of the FL expansion is open yet? Thank you so much!

Schools are off and the parental units take that advantage to the family out and go to the resort. It's pretty common when a three day holiday hits.

From my understanding there are also a number of school districts around the country (New York and Louisiana come to mind) that break for an entire week around this time as well.

Schools in Massachusetts have the entire week off. I thought it was pretty standard. Presidents Week has always been one of the most crowded weeks of the year.

Being that I'm from Louisiana I'll say alot of people from this area go during Mardi Gras because the kids get Monday and Tuesday off and this year Wednesday too! This year Mardi Gras falls on this Tuesday. So yes it very easy for us to go with out taking the kids out of school. Also it gets crazy in south louisiana because of Mardi Gras so people like me leave the crazies to join the WDW crazies. Haha! Anyway Mardi Gras is always the day before Ash Wednesday (start of Lent for Catholics) for those that don't know and want to plan trips to Disney that doesn't involve alot of people from Louisiana. Hope this helps!

Don't forget that the NBA All-Star game is in town this weekend and that is expected to bring in a lot of folks who aren't normally here. Sure, the players probably won't be down at the parks, but their spouses, kids, friends... They'll more than likely make a stop as will others in town for the game/festivities.

Those people will just add to who's already here during a very busy week.

Also it is Speedweek in Daytona and to end it with the Daytona 500 on Sunday.

OK get those Presidents spiffied up. Comb the wigs, polish the shoes, brush those coats, press the pants and get those faces to shine... The crowds are about to flock into the Hall of Presidents to honor their favorite President on Presidents Week.

A lot of families from New Orleans will be there right now because of the Mardi Gras break. So be prepared to see lots of purple, green & gold. As well as alot of Saints attire.

And for the previous poster that said "this year Mardi Gras falls on a tuesday".... Mardi Gras is always a Tuesday. Thats what "Mardi" means... french for fat tuesday.

This is the 1st time I've seen a 7am EMH at Magic Kingdom besides the Christmas Week and Easter Week.

But I was in Magic Kingdom Sunday, and the streets weren't majorly packed, but the rides seemed to have some waits.

Yep - it's usually a packed time period. My parents go to Daytona for the Daytona 500 every year and sometimes they go to Disney for a day or two. They always complain that they thought it was off season, but the parks are so crowded. Although this year the race is the weekend after Presidents Day, so I didn't think it'd be that bad. It's usually the same weekend, and sometimes it also falls on Valentine's Day weekend, which can make things all the more crowded.

St. Tammany Parish schools and I would think the surrounding parishes in Louisiana are off all this week for Mardi Gras. A lot of locals leave and go to Disney World and other places.

As a teacher, this was the one week in the winter I could really get away. Once I was staying at SS and decided to hit the hot tub one evening. As I sat and talked to the others who were soaking tired feet, we all started to tell where we were from - and everyone was from Long Island....the closing of schools made it easy for parents to schedule a week's vacation and it doesn't conflict with any religious holiday.

This year (excessed teacher at end of last year) I will be going the week after, so I am hoping that the crowds are a lot less....

We are headed down on Sat 02/25. Do you think it well be better next week?

We'll be down Sun 02/26, by the research I've done the two weeks after Presidents' week are much less crowded. Then spring break time starts. I hope for your sake and ours my information proves to be correct.

No, nothing new in fantasyland is open yet.

Louisiana only gets a day off for Presidents Day. South Louisiana as in New Orleans metro area usually gets mon-wed off for Mardi Gras. Since Mardi Gras changes dates every year, both holidays fall in the same week this year. No matter when it is, a lot of south Louisiana people always go to WDW during Mardi Gras.
