Does anyone know why the MK will be closing at 5pm on Sunday the 17th? I can't find a reason on Disney's site.

Disney is definately not going to post on their website why the parks opening and closing times are what they are. Most likely someone did a buy out.

Just out of curiousity I wonder how much it costs to rent out the park for the night

Probably wouldn't matter even if we knew, I think they will only rent out the park to large corporations who can offer some financial benefit to the Disney company. I doubt they would rent out the park to regular guests, regardless of the price.

They will rent to anyone that can pay the tab.

I have found over the years that if you have the money WDW will just about do anything possible. I usally take a large group with be to WDW and there are things that you can plan for large groups (usally over 20 guest). This year we have only 13 people going, but by paying an additional small group fee we are still getting got to plan privite dinner at Illuinations.

Hmmmm didn't know that. Well I'm assuming the tab is rather large and not feasible for your average WDW guest.
You are correct. If the numbers I have heard are remotely correct (ie Space mountain costs 10k/hour to rent) an individual renting it just for a handful of people would be highly unlikely.

Yeah, I'd imagine that renting out the whole park would run in the hundreds of thousands per hour. Hey I'm sure some guests would be willing to mortgage their house for a private hour in the parks. :p

I know DHS starts at a lil under 1,000,000.00. This is just for the park. From here it just goes up. Food, rides, characters, all that jazz is more.
