Why is it that I always see WDW commercials, but I have never...

Thanks. I used After Effects for the compositing and transitions and Final Cut Pro for the editing. The music was edited in Logic.

Ofcourse! I should have recognised that from the counting/intro cards

WOW, you must be a master I thought I could use final cut pro pretty well... you've put me to shame :o

Disneyland advertises to a more local base, and somewhat on the western side of the Mississippi. Marketing heads know that WDW is a world wide attraction and can advertise it anywhere, but especially on the east coast of the country where people are more likely to go there as opposed to Disneyland.

Thats an up and coming band called Mute Math, they are amazing.

I agree on Mute Math. I saw them in concert last year and they are phenomenal. And they are awesome live. Musically, one of the best concerts I've ever seen and I've seen plenty. BTW, inDisney, I believe the song title is "Control". You can check out their info. at http://www.myspace.com/mutemath

We see plenty of WDW commericals here in the Tampa Bay market! Both FL resident tailored ones - Florida Residents can save all year long on tickets! - as well as the national commericals on national channels. (A family of four can have a week-long vacation in WDW for as little as $1500 - including theme park tickets!)

I have seen the California general commerical which features Minnie and Mickey but I've never been far enough west to see an actual Disneyland commerical.

My guess on why you tend to see more WDW commercials is that:

1. They want people to visit WDW

2. WDW can handle a significantly larger number of guests

3. WDW can accomodate a larger number of people who go there and STAY within the Disney properties, whereas they have a limited capability to do that at the Disneyland resort.

4. By having #3, they can coup more money from the guests that are staying longer on site. So if they have their ways, they'd rather you go to WDW.

Heh, not a master, but I have been doing this for around ten years. I've worked on over 60 movies and tv series, so I've had a bit of practice. I was the lead designer on 'Charmed' and worked on 'Ally McBeal', 'Nip/Tuck', "Six Feet Under', etc. If you care to see some other Final Cut and After Effects work you can see:

The dragon was a temp shot and has been replaced. The dragon came from a stage show on the Disney Cruise Line.

vfxpro, I just saw your resume on IMDb, and I must say I am impressed. Nice work. :)

I work on WDW Commercials quite often. Many of the WDW commercials you see in Florida are actually only regional spots. They also have a series of National spots depending on the attraction or event being advertised. Disneyland does regional spots almost exclusively. If you are interested, You can check out a recent campaign I designed for WDW here: http://www.jivestream.com/sean-mullen/media/IR_Fun_Montage.wmv

All in all WDW is the number one vacation destination in the world, so they are going to have a larger advertising budget.

I liked that, alot. Thank you for posting it.

Haven't read the whole thread; this may have been said. But a big part of the reason is 3 hotels to fill vs 20+. The occupancy rates are high enough in California that there wouldn't be much revenue benefit to spending the extra $$$ to go national with ads. It's like back when the Grateful Dead NYE show tickets would have such a high demand that there had to be a lottery for them even without advertising, so no reason to bother.

Cheers.

I haven't read the entire, but anyway i live in Pennsylvania can't remeber the last time I saw a Disneyland commercial. I see commercials for WDW at least once a day, now that it's almost summer.

I remember a Disneyland commercial I saw all the time several years (10-ish?) ago on Tampa Bay area local stations. It featured Goofy in the streets of Toontown doing a very goofy dance to a New Orleans jazz style rendition of "I Wanna Be Like You". The tag line was something like "We all act a little goofy." It was a very cute commercial!

Crappy heroes ?!?! That is one of the best!

I think we are thinking of two different commercials. I'm thinking of the one that has the mom and dads dressed as super heros and they are grocery shopping mowing the lawn, etc.

Yeah that song is Control and will be played opn my rock show this evening, I think I'll throw in a Disney reference to it!

I'll definitely check it out. I don't know if you've tried but I do lots of audio editing (I'm a DJ/Radio Producer) and I use adobe audition it's amazing... not sure how important it is for you though.

Nip/Tuck is awesome!! Good job on the WDW spot, but Tarzan Rocks no longer exists.

Thanks for the compliments. I'm aware that Tarzan no longer exists, I live 3 minutes away from DAK and can see everest from my apartment complex. I used over 15 years of footage some from attractions that no longer exist.. I put scenes from Alien Encounter in there as well. The basis for the spot was to appeal to the mid range audience. "Tweens to Young Adults". So I used rides as the focal point which few WDW commercials do, unless it's advertising a single attraction. Most WDW commercials come at you from a "Magic" perspective. On this spot I used the rides to tell the story.

I was tired of hearing negative comments from various clients that "the kids think there is nothing to do at Disney" So I used this spot to remind everyone that WDW may not have the fastest rides, but they do have the most memorable. :o

I've heard alot about audition, I'll have to check it out. As for audio editing, I'll cut a basic idea out, but I always send my audio work to our audio guys to have polished. Our producer cut the mute math song for time and for specific music hits. The original song swells up and down, and we wanted a slow buildup to the end.

As a side project I do graphics for DJs and raves. I've seen these guys use amazing software, right now I'm a huge fan of BFD.
