Why I don't really mind paying crazy prices..

Okay, we all know it. Disney overcharges for bottles of water and other things... A lot. But to be honest, I don't really mind. Sure, I'm not gonna but five bottles of $4.50 water a day. But when I want something and it's a little expensive. Heck yeah I'll pay for it. Here's why,

I see it this way. The majority of what I'm paying is straight profit for Disney. That means for every few bottles of water or soda I buy, that could pay a painters wage for an hour to make a part of the park look brand new again.. For every few treats I munch on, that's some money to pay for that massive power bill Disney racks up for our precious air conditioning. And heck, maybe the overall picture is big enough to sway the big wigs into something they'd otherwise not bother with.

I dunno. I see a lot of people on here griping about high prices. But to keep project main street alive costs a lot of dough. I see paying their prices more of a donation with a treat attached to it more than anything. And if I can help make my next trip more magical.. Well, that's a price worth paying..

This is a bit of a rehash of an earlier thread about the cost of Disney. The upshot of that thread was that the cost of a Disney vacation is comparable to other upscale vacations. But, to your point specifically we have no direct control over how that profit is used. My wife and I understand the costs of going to Disney and those costs are more than worth it for the joy we get from being there (especially if our children and grandchildren are there). I have to admit, though, if we added up the cost of all the pins and animation cells we've bought they should have been able to fix the Yeti.

Personally, I think that for where you are Disney's prices aren't that out of control. $2.50 for a bottle of water in a theme park is low compared to others in the industry. I do what I can to save some money here and there when I go, but overall I don't think that they are at the ridiculous point yet.

I don't feel their prices are too high and there are ways around it if it really bother you... ie... I always take a couple of cans of coke in with me it kinda sucks carrying them though...

I don't know if it's true but I heard that Disney actually don't pay a cent for their coke and coke products as coca-cola use it as a marketing tool...

I don't know if anyone can confirm or deny this?

Disney is expensive but.......

Disney is expensive but when compared to other venues we get more for the money. Ticket for the day around $85/day. Go to a Broadway show, go to Vegas and watch big name shows for $95 plus for a couple of hours.
We do watch our spending habits, where we stay, and meals we have. Always have a great time. See you Nov. 30, in the MK:sohappy:

Disney is expensive. But I will give them, they're a LOT cheaper than other places.

Sporting events - $8 hot dogs, $6 drinks, $10-$15 alcohol

Six Flags - $10 for ONE slice of pizza, $5-$7 drinks

Really, Disney is the cheapest of the expensive.

So, I don't mind paying it, because it's par for the course.

Six Flags is Rediculous on food prices..Mine out here in Chicago has Johnny Rockets and their burger combo is $13.99 and the drinks are another $3.75...Sheesh!:brick:

I agree, Disney prices aren't outrageous. Of course it adds up when you are spending a week there, but that's the cost you are paying for a good vacation. Its pricey, but when compared to other places like it its comparable. To get a pop out of a vending machine at Cedar Point in Ohio its at least $3.00 and I think it has gone up to closer to $4.

True.

I took my son to his first NFL game two weeks ago - Jacksonville Jaguars. Now,the Jaguars have some of the lowest ticket prices in the NFL...our seats were $90 EACH. The only way we were able to justify it was that my sister was able to get us these seats for $25 each. So, here's the price breakdown for the day:

Tickets - $50
Park and Ride - $14 (which included a soda once we got into the staduim)
Lunch (two hot dogs and a pretzel) - $16
Water - $4 (two bottles @2 each)
Fries (never send a 13 year old for drinks by himself) $4

Grand total, for two of us - $88. Now, the Jags LOWERED the price of water due to the heat - it was priced at $3, but they were selling it for $2. This for about 4 hours of entertainment...not bad, and I won't complain about the prices any more than I do for Disney.

I think that Disney is pretty much right in line with resorts and other leisure activities for prices, and I have no problems with that.

they are $3 at our "local" 6 flags.. I think for the amount of shows, attractions, rides, street performers etc that we "get" in WDW for our money..well to me it's a very reasonable amount of money for what we get!

I agree Disney is not as bad as some other places. NYC is worse. Aruba, Bahamas....pretty much everywhere in the Caribbean that I've been is worse. We stayed at Atlantis a few years ago, and that cost was far more outrageous than Disney.

Disney gives you options too. You can choose a value resort. You can go during free dining. You are free to bring your own food & water in to the park. The only thing that really bothers me about Disney is that you have to pay for your ticket to not expire. We used to always buy 10 day hoppers and use them over several trips. Having that option taken away has forced us to spend a lot more on park tickets, and avoid park hopping altogether on some trips. But other than that, I'm not too upset about Disney costs.

I think it is either 3.50 or 4 at Six Flags in NJ...not exactly sure, but I do know that it is more expensive.

You are right that tickets didn't used to expire. But I'm fairly sure that in the past, they used to charge pretty much the same for each day of your ticket. Now the per day price gets lower and lower the longer you stay, so they are only adding about $8 to the price of the ticket for each day after Day 4. I think that's the tradeoff.
