Why I am already annoyed with FP+

I am planning to be at WDW over Thanksgiving and, while I am going alone, I may be meeting up with a friend for one day while there. She lives in Florida and would be driving down for the day to meet me. While trying to plan my day, I'm already annoyed. I have FP+ scheduled for three attractions at MK on the day she is thinking of coming. Because she will only be coming down for the day and is not staying on site, she is unable to book FP+. This means I either have to A) go on rides without her if I want to use my FP+, or B) cancel my FP+ reservations. I'm not okay with how this is going to work out, though I always stay on site. I'm not sure how it's fair that those who do not choose to stay in a Disney resort do not get to use the new FP system. Maybe I'm missing something and there is a way to use it offsite, but I don't think so. Surely, this could have been implemented better.

Well, she hasn't purchased her ticket yet, but that seems like a ridiculous amount of work for part of one day.

You said you were "not okay" with the other options (use your FP+s without your friend or don't use them at all). Getting legacy FPs is difficult unless you're both there very early. I was just trying to offer an alternative. If you think it's too much work, you can always stay with what you're "not okay" with.

When I said I was "not okay with how this is going to work out" I was referring to the FP+ system in general. Obviously, I'll have to do one of these two things.

We ran into a more complicated situation on our last trip. We were 15 people in 5 parties: 3 roomsat Pop, 1 room at AoA, 1 room offsite. The 3 people staying offsite could not get FastPasses with us. 1 of the couple at AoA wasn't issued a magic band and he couldn't get FP+ either. Of the 3 rooms at Pop, only 2 of us had tickets linked before hand so the other party had to be added after arrival to our fast passes. And to complicate things even further (yes it's possible)...2 of us had 2 day passes which we upgraded to 3 day on our first day so the FP selections we had did not included the 3rd day that some of our party had already selected. Oh and we also had a local join us on one day so HE wasn't able to get the same fast passes with us either! Did you follow all that?

End result...2 plus 3 of our group basically ended up going their own way as the rest of us followed our fast pass schedules. Very annoying to say the least!!!

PRO: on our last day, we upgraded again to Florida Resident Seasonal Passes and so are grandfathered into the program and can select FP+ for our December offsite trip.
CON: if my niece decides to join us she will again be SOL even though she got a FRSP, she stayed offsite in Oct and so won't be able to get FP+ with us...AGAIN!

I am in the same boat. My parents and sister (locals) are meeting us in the parks on a few days but they said they would just shop or get a snack and wait for us to get off the ride.

To the OP, I'll say the same thing i just said in another thread: at the moment FP+ should be treated like an on-site perk.

It's no different than me staying on-site having access to Extra Magic hours while my friends at an off-site hotel don't. My choices in that instance: go to EMH without my friends, or skip using the benefit of EMH and do something else with my friends. There's nothing forcing you to use FP+. If you have to give it up in order to coordinate with people who don't have access, I'm sorry but that's life.

I just called Disney. Even though we have Annual Passes, we still cannot use FastPass+. We are locals -- no resort stay -- so no FastPass+. When I asked what happens to FastPass because resort guests book up all the FastPass+ in advance, Disney said too bad (but said it in a Disney-like manner). So I just spent over $900 for our APs and we are now stuck with standby lines. This especially screws us when we have guests, which we frequently do. We have not activated our AP ... can I get a refund? No.

Youre not stuck only with standby lines. The legacy FP is still in operation ;)

Sounds like Disney is making planning a vacation difficult.

But they are quick to cancel AP for people complaining that the GAC doesn't work for them. Hmmmm

I have a vacation planned for May. To be honest I hope they work out all these problems with FP+ because I don't want to go with all of these problems. Yesterday on a fb Disney group someone was complaining that many of the wait times were incorrect because the FP+ line was backed up.
