Why does Universal do this?

If you book a room only reservation, you can only pay the deposit for 1 night. If you want to pay the entire balance, they have to send you credit card authorization forms, and you have to make copies of your drivers license and credit card. It's stupid. Why in the world would they want to make it so difficult for you to give them money???

- how much was the total? If it was over a certain amount, many will like to have proof that you authorized the use of their card.

- what was the cancellation policy?

With WDW room only pay a 1 nights deposit, the balance is due on checkin, and you can cancel up to 5-6 days in advance and get your deposit back; if you don't within that period they keep your deposit.

As a travel agent, I have to have a credit card auth form signed by all of my clients after I make their initial deposit so that they don't turn around sue me for unauthorized use of their card. Ideally we like to have it before initial deposit, but since in the majority of cases the deposit is easily refunded, getting the form signed after is ok.

If you went to a storefront travel agency or a hotel front desk, they would want to see your card and ID.

BTW, if you ever went to rent a suite that goes for many thousands of dollars per night, in many cases you need to fill out forms so that they can do a background and credit check.

We do something similar at KK and it is not because we want to, it is because we have to. Without it we leave ourselves and our clients open to all kids of problems.

When you book directly through Disney, you can pay any and/or all of the balance. Why would this be a problem for Universal and not for Disney?

Perhaps the hotel chains that run Universals resorts (Loew's and Hard Rock?) have had different experiences with credit card issues than Disney; and the legal teams have made each of them use this procedure.

To make it even more confusing, if you book a package deal, they will let you pay off with a credit card.

Very strange.

If you book a package with Disney or Universal you have to pay it off 45 days ahead. A room only at either resort is a 1 night deposit and they you are charged the remaining balance on check in. If its important to you to have your rooms paid for before leaving just book a package.

That is not 100% accurate. If you book a room only reservation with Disney, you can pay any amount any time you want before check-in.

I have been, thats why its so disappointing to return and see the usual suspects peddling the same self indulgent pish as always.

But even a half wit has a 50% advantage on you.

I don't know about anyone else, but I certainly am impressed with your analysis. And may I also say, you are one, tough, scary guy sitting behind that computer of yours constantly insulting people.
