Why can't you record American Adventure?

There's a lot of discussion about this topic on WDW forums...generally, yes, I assume it is to prevent any distraction to those around you (and some CMs say "to preserve the integrity of the show...").

Still, at least for AA, I've had some CMs simply state "no exterior video camera lighting" (of course this was the day I didn't have my camcorder).

If you're really interested in taping the show on your next trip, always bring the camcorder to be ready, and listen closely (or ask a CM and mention you'll have the LCD closed), and you might actually be allowed to record the show.

Often the reason for not being allowed to tape a particular attraction is because of the talent involved (ie. Ellen or maybe Bill Nye in Ellen's Energy Adventure, Rick Moranis or one of the other cast members in Honey, I Shrunk the Audience, etc.). But then there are others like American Adventure or Impressions De France I'm just not sure about. Perhaps someone in the American Adventure montage didn't want their image recorded...who knows? What's even more strange is that some attractions at Disney World you're not allowed to tape, like Star Tours, are perfectly fine to tape at Disneyland and vice versa - at California Adventure you're not allowed to tape Muppet-Vision, but no one at Disney-MGM has ever told me not to (in fact, one CM was egging me on so much I started to think maybe they were going to close it or something!).
I have yet to visit American Adventure without having the CM say no recording of any kind. Of course, I've only been to it seven or eight times. Actually, I would love to go in there and have the CM say nothing about it. Then I wouldn't feel so bad about doing it anyway, and I'd get a much better taping because I wouldn't be trying to hide the camera all the time (I didn't just say this. You didn't read it.).
As for consideration for your fellow guests, as already mentioned by DisneyAnole I don't think that's a real reason. Otherwise, as he also said, you wouldn't be allowed to tape on any attraction. Not all of us are the type to use those annoying flip screens. I even spent a little more money on my most recent camcorder to make sure it had an "old school" eye piece.

So many people use the flip screen, and it is VERY annoying to see all these little screens in front of me. Also, the LIGHTS can harm the how, as can the infrared beams form the lowlight camcorders. Some attractions are more sensitive to this stuff than others, and it is just easier to deny us the opportunity to tape or photograph. So that's the best explanatio I've gotten from various cast members.

I have to think it is a copyright issue or someone not wanting you to record their image?????

I really have no idea though.

Glad I could help! :ROFLOL:

But they didn't allow videotaping before the popularity of LCD screens, so I don't think that was the original rationale.

I agree I don't think it has to do with the LCD screens. If that were the case, the logical thing to do would be to ask people recording to sit in the back. Or they would say something like, "No flash photography and no LCD screens."

I really think it has to do with the legal protection of the content, for whatever reason.

As far as I know....and that might not be much, most of the times when you aren't allowed to tape something it's because there is a film part to the attraction, and recording that film would be very similar to recording a movie at a theatre. Though many of the attractions feature other stuff outside of the film, it's the film issue that I think really throws a wrench it it as far as I know.

Like soarin` technically I don't think you are allowed to record it, and all it is, is a video.

But you can film Reflections of China, right? What about the new version of Canada? Does anyone know if you're allowed to film that? Seems like that would be the kind of show where it would be banned, since you've got a celebrity (albeit grade-D) starring in it.

Even stranger...you're allowed to film the montage at the end of the Great Movie Ride. Seems like THAT would be the one piece of footage that would be the most legally protected.

word of advise. i havent acttually done this but if you want to record the show. COMPLETELY RESPECT EVERYONE WATCHING THE SHOW. however. before you go in learn the tiniest of some foreign language, like errr polish or something, something no one else is gonna be able to understand, and when they tell you to turn it off to avoid a red face pretend your foreign. but tbh no one really checks for that thing and youll probaly get away with it.

Actually, ________ Cheney's Undisclosed Location was inadvertently included in the film. If you get caught trying to leave with a record of it, the Dream Squad awards you with a hunting trip with the Veep... :D

You can record all of those you mentioned. I posted a listing of everything I've ever heard a spiel for (recorded or by a CM) on the other thread currently going on about camcorders at Disney. The only World Showcase attractions that are currently a no-tape zone are American Adventure and Impressions de France (which once upon a time was okay to tape and it hasn't changed, so go figure).

they know you will feel foolish when you go home and ask yourself "why did i record this entire show....?"

if I was there and had the chance .. I'd ask myself why I didn't tape the whole thing ... Oh the new AA in HD .. that would be niiiice (Borat)

When I was younger, sometime in the 90's, I recorded a lot of DW attractions since we just had bought an 8mm camera with the old fashion eye-peice view finder. I recorded ones like AA and COP where all they said was no flash or external lights. I even recorded LOTLK both the preshow and the main show. The main thing you need to do is just be courteous to others around you. Too many times have I seen some random person in the middle of the theatre with his camera at eye level, LCD screen open allowing everyone behind him the opportunity to watch whatever attraction you are on on TV. I've even seen some of these people use external lighting, where a CM doesn't say a word. I always sat in the back rested my arm on the armrest and recorded whatever I needed. I even went so far to turn off the red recording light so that it wouldn't effect anyone involved. So far I haven't had a CM say a word.
