Why Can You Shoot Video/Take Flash Pictures in Some Attractions But Not in Others??

flashing

when i think of people taking pictures of the AA's it reminds me of the Simpsons episode where they go to "Itchy & Scratchy Land" and the robots go all wiggy and they have to use flash cameras to kill them. that was great!

but i do think flash photography in dark rides is kinda silly and painful to the eyes

This goes for cell phone use in an attraction as well.

In September my husband and I were at Sounds Dangerous and someone's phone rang halfway through! Talk about ruining the experience!

What ever happened to enjoying the ride? I'm not sure pictures do it for me once I get home. I know video is a cool reminder but I just don't understand why you can't just sit back, zip it and enjoy the ride? You miss the experience of the ride with your eye stuck to the back of a camera anyway.

I had an experience on POTC where a "nice lady" (ahem) sitting in front of me wanted to document every AA and scene on the ride with here big honking flash. English appeared to be out of grasp as she totally ignored any and all requests to not use a flash. After about 10 shots, my retina's bleeding and seeing stars, I resorted to a little revenge. Everytime I saw her begin to push the button on her camera to take a picture, I reached around and quickly put my hand in front of her lens. Ok so I missed the ride completely but I laughed for the rest of the trip as I visualized her picking up her pictures back home wondering what went wrong with her camera. She should have just enjoyed the ride because she didn't create any mental memories and I ruined her pictures...:sohappy:

Personally I would take flashes over people talking loudly any day. Last September while riding the Haunted Mansion ride there were several people taking flash pictures and that didn't bother me. What bothered me was the people in 2 separate doom buggys behind me that felt the need to carry on a conversation by screaming to one another. By the end of the ride I was ready to add 2 more "happy haunts" to the attraction ;)

I know what you mean. When I ocassionally film rides, I have to turn around and ride it again just so I can experiance it without the camera. You get so distracted filming that you forget to enjoy the ride.

I don't like it when people use cell phones on rides either- or ESPECIALLY in shows. I've always wanted to talk on the cell while riding SPace Mtn, though, it's just one of those things I've always wanted to try! I've never tried it, though, b/c I'm afraid I'd drop it, and I doubt you'd get very good service.

I can often times tune out the flash photograpy on rides (though in certain scenes or at certain moments, they can light up the wrong thing at the wrong time, and then it upsets me). I don't think the no flash rule is too much to ask, ppl should abide by it. I also hate when CMs forget to tell ppl the rules.

My biggest pet peeve, though, is parents who bring their children into attractions that are obviously not tame enough for them. The result is an indoor show filled with screaming kids who are either (a) not taken out so the parents can selfishly stay and see the show while the rest of the theaters' experience is ruined, or (b) you're in something like Sounds Dangerous, where darkness is vital, and they have to turn on flashlights to take your children (who you should KNOW if they are scared of darkness in most cases- and there are TONS of warnings), totally ruining the experience.

The problem with penalties for these, though, is that accidents can always happen. Well-intentioned people can mistakenly think that their flash is off or that their cell phone is on silent, or that their kid will definitely have no problem.

I read earlier about video taping attractions and how night vision can possibly affect the ride. Is this true?

I would always download ride videos for some of the dark rides (certain parts of TTA, Space Mountain, etc...) and it would just be pitch black. I always said to myself "Why don't they just turn on Night Vision if they have it on the camera?"

And I have to concur that flash photography is very annoying on a ride.
