Why aren't the 7 dwarfs the same colors as the movie?

Why are the 7 dwarfs the only characters that dont really look like the ones in the movie? I mean besides dopey, all the rest of them have these different color shirts? Is there a reason why they look different than in the movie?

My thought was always that the clothes they wear in the films are very subdued in color. Their outfits they wear when they're out in the parks are much more vibrant and bright.

I don't know about the OP's question, but I have often wondered why the movie is called "Snow White and the Seven DWARFS". Shouldn't the plural of dwarf be dwarves?

Examples:

Wife-Wives
Knife-Knives
Elf-Elves
Shelf-Shelves
Leaf-Leaves

I'm pretty sure I've even seen it spelled as dwarves in other venues as well. Did Walt deliberately spell it wrong, or was it an error which was overlooked until it was too late to change it?

Kind Sir,

Consider the word roof. We would climb atop multiple roofs, not rooves.
The English language has special exceptions to its own rules, and can sometimes grant options for the proper spelling of the plural form of certain words. Examples include:
dwarf - dwarfs or dwarves
hoof - hoofs or hooves
scarf - scarfs or scarves
staff - staffs or staves
wharf - wharfs or wharves
