Who's been to Trader Sam's lately?

People actually wait an hour- two to go into a bar? There are plenty of places to get a drink at Disney...Seems kind of crazy.

It's also very small inside. I think capacity is actually 50 but I could be wrong. If ur here at 4 you should get inside otherwise take this patio it's actually really nice, more quiet and have live music and great views

50 people is correct. I was able to walk into the podium area but in order for me to look around, I had to stay behind the doorway and then lean forward to stick my head in.

1 hour isn't too bad. I think you can walk around a bit with your pager as long as you stay close to the Great Ceremonial House. Depending on the drinks you get, different effects happen. I believe one of the drinks causes your seat to lower (according to a CM), as if you were shrinking , and another drink causes the volcano to erupt etc. It's not just a bar, it's a bar + experience. I wish they would've added more capacity thought. It is WDW, where hordes of people are expected.

It's a lot of fun. Inside is def an experience you have to try. I loved the patio as well. It's very relaxed where as inside there's a lot going on. Kinda two different experiences in one place. Defiantly check it out :) Go during the week, it's not as busy. I've gone 6 times and have yet to wait to get in. Then again, it is now summer and peak season so that could change that lol

That's cool.... I personally would never wait an hour for it, but different strokes... I'm not sure I would wait 30....

I was really looking forward to this place - the plan was to go Sat July 18, but we're only in town Fri-Sun and I can only get away around 9 or so, so I think we're going to be screwed. :(

Any other suggestions for my sis, cousin and I?

Never heard? Good?
Mizners is the 2nd floor (monorail level) lounge in the main building of the Grand Floridian, so it's theming is the style of the GF, not crazy whacky or anything like Trader Sam's.
However, they serve up some nice cocktails and you can take them out of the lounge and listen to the GF orchestra while you mingle with the other beautiful people who frequent the GF.

I'm willing to wait up to 90 minutes / my sister and cousin are pretty diehard so maybe we will tuff it out - but anything over two hours I'm gone. The longest I waited to get in a bar was my favorite tiki bar near north side of Chicago, Halakahiki (90 minutes) - and part of that was outside in the winter.

I was there this week (midweek) around 8:00 and we waited about ahold hour or so to get in. When we got in there weren't any seats so we ordered drinks at the bar and by the time we HS gotten our drinks a table had opened up. The drinks are delicious (albeit expensive since you're paying for the experience as well as the alcohol) and its a really fun time to go and do something so different. I highly recommend it regardless of the wait!

Two (almost 3!) months in and there's still long waits? Wow. Good for Sam's.

It's more about the experience of the highly themed environment and not about the booze. Your comment is akin to saying "two hours just for a boat ride?!" and referring to Pirates of the Caribbean. :)

If you had to wait, it is worth it. I've been lucky everytime I've gone and not had to wait. But I would if I had to, it's worth it. A lot of fun

Saturday night, June 6, we had an Ohana reservation at 9-ish. We arrived at Poly at 8:30 and went to Sam's. It was a 2 hour wait. We put our name on the list, got a pager and went to our Ohana reservation. Buzzer rang just as we were finishing up. I highly recommend this strategy.

As for Trader Sam's, I have some very specific thoughts, most of which are not so flattering and I will include details in my upcoming trip report.

The difference is I never wait more than 20 minutes now with fast pass and knowing the park.... Hey, if you want to wait 2 hours for a drink.... All the more power to you....I will be at crews cup drinking my 2nd 18 year Macallen ;)

Anyone been to Trader Sam's in the last month or two?

This is a MUST-see for my husband and I on the next trip. Since we're traveling with children we obviously need to go earlier rather than later, particularly because of the age cutoff after 8pm. Ideally I'd like to go right around the time it opens for the day.

Do we need to plan to get there WAY early? If we arrive around the time it opens on a given day, is it already going to be jammed? Or would showing up around 4 mean a relatively short wait or possibly no wait?

I know wait times will fluctuate with crowd levels; I'm just looking for a general feel.

edit: I'm an idiot and just remembered this basically JUST opened. Excuse my reference to "the last month or two". Let's go with "since the week after it opened!" ;)
Be there in 40 days!!! WooHoo!!

The bar has a fire code capacity of something like 60 people, but not enough seats for 60. So all the pager return means is that they are allowed to admit you, no guarentee of a table. Remember it is a bar/lounge so tables are never reserved, its always first come first served, the wait is just to get in.

I know it's a bar/lounge, and I know they typically have open seating policies. However, when you hand someone a pager and tell them to come back in two hours when it buzzes, there's a reasonable expectation that they're going to get a place to sit.

Simply allowing them admittance leads to the most annoying thing in the world: the table hoverers. The people who just stand awkwardly by your table, shooting you dirty looks, annoyed that you aren't moving fast enough for them.

We were at Trader Sam's recently after we had been to dinner at California Grill. It was really late (and a night in the middle of the week) but I was surprised we didn't have a wait at all - we were able to be seated immediately.

The effects are really cool and I thought it was definitely worth the visit. I think the drink prices were reasonable since you get to bring a souvenir home from it. I wish they had a bit more variety on the menu of drink options, but overall it was definitely worth going there.

Yeah, I'll wait 2 hours for a great mai tai and a immersive E-Ticket environment. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
