Who thinks the Magic Kingdom should have been named Disneyland

Think for yourselfer
Just the other day, one of my life long friends was telling me about a trip to Disney World they took a while back. He and his wife got into a disagreement on whether an attraction was in the Studios or Disney World. To them "Studios" means Universal and "Disney World" means Magic Kingdom. I just "Let it Go". Get it? Who cares if people know the correct names of the parks as long as they had an enjoyable time?

Ah, a fellow anarchist. I dig it.

This is correct. Roy added "Walt" to Disney World as a tribute to his brother.

On opening day of MK, Roy took off and asked a boat driver to take him out into the lagoon before his speech. Employees thought he was about to end his life but he just wanted to reflect. As he walked up to give his dedication he grabbed Mickey by the hand and took him with him. This is why you see Mickey looking a little awkward in the photo of the dedication .

Sadly, Roy died only a month after MK opened.

Just out of curiousity, why did people think Roy was going to take his life on opening day of MK? This should have been a joyous moment. It was a job well done to honour his brother's name. I get that he died a couple months later in December of 1971 (from natural causes I believe?) but what would prompt people to think he was suicidal?

Anyone know the story behind this one in the post above? Did anyone actually think Roy Disney was suicidal on the opening day of MK?
I truly doubt that there is a story with that statement. I would bet the farm that it was just something that someone said, in jest, that was taken by someone else as fact. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it!

Further, an idiot kid rivalry was sort of present with: "Well, California got Disneyland..," without saying it implying it's about the size of a county, "We got DisneyWORLD!!," again implying that we had a freakin' planet-sized theme park. We were young and stupid.
What is so stupid about that? Isn't that exactly what Disney wanted to convey with 'World'?

Disney World is the entire resort area and Magic Kingdom is one theme park. Why call only a part of the whole a world? Wouldn't really make sense.

Maybe not just one:

Tokyo Disneyland
Disneyland Paris
Disneyland Hong Kong
Shanghai Disneyland (2015)

Just put the location name in front of or after the park.. Then everyone can probably understand better!

Disneyland California
Florida Disneyland

That seems to be what they're doing..

Nothing grinds my gears more than this conversation..

Friends: "We got back from Disneyland!"
Me: "You mean Disney WORLD."
Friends: ".....Um.. Same thing."
Me: ".................no.............no it's not.................:)............"

Magic Kingdom is a great name, both for its descriptive qualities of the park that W. Disney envisioned in building and for its simplicit uniqueness.

Why call all the resorts/parks nearly the same thing under the Disneyland banner? Let them be original names.

If people aren't able to distinguish the names for the separate resorts/parks, then it is clear that their interest level for the concept of each individual park is not significant to them. Seemingly, they are there just to "pass a good time" and not to take an actual interest in their surroundings.

I also like the name EPCOT because of its attempt to be progressive and signify a concept that was important to W. Disney himself, as he championed education, the innovative spirit and future sustainability.

Magic Kingdom isn't original. Disneyland has been referred to as "The Magic Kingdom" or "Walt Disney's Magic Kingdom" since its opening. None of the castle parks have original names, except Disneyland.

To answer the original question, no.

Yes, I know, but, that is because having two Disneylands in the same country would just cause unnecessary confusion to many who already confuse Disneyland and Disney World. The Disneyland, is still the only one that is identified by the name Disneyland with no locations listed. Or would we prefer Disneyland Orlando and Anaheim Disneyland?
There are going to be two disneylands in china. Do you think anyone in china will be confused?

Why are we having this foolish argument. The Disneyland's in China are labeled with location. None of them anywhere are as big as Disney World hence the name world instead of land.

On top of that Disneyland is Disneyland because that is what Walt named it and it is the original, where it all started. There is no location designation in the name. Walt Disney World is because that is what it was named by Roy. And there is only one of those, as well.

EDIT: Also Walt named it Disney World. I think he knew what he wanted to convey.

When I am in FL, I say I am going to WDW and break it down by location. However, if I go to the Disneyland Resort, each park gets referred to either as the MK or CA. We don't wake up and say," lets hit Disneyland then walk over to CA".
