ugh I was told the real reason long ago, but i can't remember. I think it had to do with Disney And Warner Bros. fighting over it, but does anyone know the reason we don't see Roger Rabbit anymore? I know he's no longer cunducting in Spectro Magic and has been replaced by the Genie.

easy... he's not a Disney owned character. Roger = Amblin

What happened it that Steven Spielberg and Michael Eisner had a bitter falling out, like a lot of people have, and this led to Disney losing the rights to using Roger Rabbit, and Amblin claiming exclusive rights to the character. A similar situation occured with Turner Entertainment, who owns the rights to the MGM and Warner Bros films featured in The Great Movie Ride, and this has prevented GMR from being built in any other Disney theme parks. Walt Disney Studios in Paris was supposed to have a Great Movie Ride, as was the Hollywood Studios land at California Adventure. In fact, the short-lived Superstar Limo was in fact a last-minute replacement for GMR!

Hope this answers your question! :animwink:

What slight modification did they make, and what things are different at Disneyland's Toontown concerning Roger?

I forgot to mention that there was an online petition to re-instate Roger Rabbit with Disney and in the Disney theme parks. I signed this a few years ago, but don't remember the URL or if it's even online anymore!

Kent,

online petitions mean nothing at the end of the day. The concessions were made to places that already featured Roger. Since at the time of the concessions Spectromagic was nonexistant, upon its return he had to be pulled.

If this is so, how did Disneyland keep its Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin ride, if he was featured here as well?

the concessions were made to allow Roger to remain in places he already was in.

Out of curiosity, why was he pulled form SpectroMagic... yet still performs in Disneyland's "Parade of the Stars" each day?

Roger still appears in Parade of the Stars? That's odd, he was pulled from WDW's parade, but still is able to appear at one of Disneyland's parades. How that got arranged is beyond me! :veryconfu

He was pulled from Spectromagic, since Spectromagic wasn't around during the contract negotiation, hence making it a NEW show. The Parade of the Stars has still been around in the same capacity as it was then, so that can stick around.

This must have been during Spectromagic's 2 year hiatus from 1999-2001, when Main Street Electrical Parade returned to WDW's Magic Kingdom.

Speaking of that, it would be nice to see Main Street Electrical Parade return to WDW sometime. Maybe move Spectromagic to Disney-MGM, while running MSEP in the Magic Kingdom? ;)

I forgot to mention that it would be something to see BOTH light parades at WDW running at the same time!

Back to our original topic on this thread, I REALLY hate that Roger has been ousted from WDW and other Disney theme parks. He is my favorite of all the Disney (or Disney-related) characters, and his movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit is my all-time favorite movie; not just my favorite Disney movie, but my favorite of all-time :(

Let's hope that whoever replaces Eisner sometime soon will try to re-negociate with Spielberg and Amblin, and hopefully try to get Roger back into the Disney parks! :)
