Well I am using Bryce 5 but I have no idea what I am doing or how do use any aspect of it. I know how to add trees and mountains and rocks and thats all. I dont know hwo the heck to render it or do, well anything. I am also having problems using Meta Creations Poser 4, the book i have on poser 4 is to advanced for me (beginer). Can you reccomend any good sites with free lessons or any books I could get for a beginer. Any help would be appricated. Also, how do I make buildings? Do I do that in Bryce??? I know there is also Maya but I want to learn Bryce first.

I got the copy from my school (they dropped the course), all they gave me is the CD, the package had nothing in it. And its missing the Application CD, so my friend is copying it so i can use those files later.

You can contact metacreations with valid serial # info and they will be more than happy to send you replacment manuals. Trust me, bryce is "3d for dummies" and the manual is VERY basic and will help you learn it without a problem. Its worh the time to get them (well..bryce isnt really worth any time at all..but thats a whoooole other issue)

..to be a little more helpfull...

Bryce (as well as pretty much every 3d program on the market now) has a very extensive help file. Always look there first...(this will come VERY handy when you get into maya...as if the 5 manuals they give you arent enough)

I thought Meta Creations sold Bryce 5 off to Corel, at least my copy says Corel. I would get it from my friend, but I dont think he has "legal" copies of the software.

Wouldnt suprise me..corel buys everythting...and if i recall they bought "Painter" (formally by metacreations)....I dont really keep up with Bryce since it really doesnt serve any purpose on earth other than wasting 300+ megs of HD space..

Ah yes..the ol "my friend got a copy from some guy" scenario...Bryce REALLY isnt that expensive (in fact im pretty sure you can get a copy from best buy)....less than 300 bucks even (REALLY cheap compaired to the pricetag attached to programs like XSI or Maya)

Yeah it really aint expensive. My teacher said he only paid 200 bucks for it anyway, thats why he didnt mind giving it to me. But I think my friend got his copy off a peer to peer program like KaZaA.

Never trust Kazaa....virus's everywhere....but i guess its a lesson that needs to be learned by those who want "something for nothing"...

....in case you havnt already figured it out..im VERY anti piracy...since i spend a small fortune on all the programs I use..they would prob be a bit cheaper if less people "stole" them..

o well...as I said..your copy being valid, you can obtain a replacment manual ;)

Yeah, Meta Creations sold Bryce to Corel, Poser to Curious Labs, and Cararra to Eovia. I am guessing they still own the rights to Canoma.

Well after putting out what I did for Photoshop, I understand why you are mad about pirating software. But I must confess before that i was a P2P file swaper and I got a virus from a copy of Studio MX I got off KaZaA and will never use it again. (yes I know I just incriminated myself, but oh well I am 15, so sue me! And dont worry I ended up buying Studio MX Plus a few weeks ago so Macromedia got their money)

But I will try to call Corel and get the product information.

Yeah, Meta Creations became Viewpoint.

And the rest of the Kais products were sold off to Scansoft.

Canoma supposidly created 3d models from a series of photographs..it really doesnt work that great..

Carrara is a combination between Raylabs 3d and Infini-D (2 old school 3d programs that I havnt seen in YEARS)...I never used it, and never heard anything good or bad about it *shrugs*

Ok, I will do. You see next year I am going to learn C++ and the year after Java so my goal is to learn that and then have mastered Bryce, Maya, and Poser by then to make a graphical interface (i think thats the term for it) for the game. then as a senior my Independent Study Project is to put it all together and try to market the game. I hope it works out, but I really have to get moving on it, i have ahd the software for sometime now but never bothered to install it.

Right now I am learning Microsoft QuickBASIC and working on an animation project with that, I will try to upload a copy of it to my friends ftp server for anyone who wants to see it when its done, (sometime arround June cause I am still learning it).

Also, you might know, is there a way to compile a .BAS file into a .EXE without QBasic v4.5 (which is not made anymore). If so, then I can make it run for anyone.

You really dont need a 3d program to make an interface for a program, back in my C++ days I always used photoshop ;)

BUT..C++ is good to learn for any 3d work (ESPECIALLY Maya)...

As for your QBasic question...my copy of windows has qbasic already on it..but..you can also search the net for bas compilers..most of them are free...

Hummm.... *thinks C|NET*

I will try download.com or shareware.com

Well how do you get the creatures to move or the like "camera angle" to move around a figure to make those like "flash movie" type effects. I might be confusing you but I know with Dreamcatcher Games, they have little movies triggered when you go do the right thing, how are those created? Can you do that with Photoshop (i have never really used Photoshop to its fullness)
