Who else was skeptical the first time they visited Animal Kingdom?

The experience gives the illusion that you are mixed in a real African environment. Zoos can't touch that.

I think that that statement can't truly be made as you haven't visited all zoos. Our zoo is Africa themed as well. You can even feed animals like the giraffe's. Often, the Lions are lying right next to the protective glass and the gorillas are always interacting with people. You could touch the monkeys and all birds. So it would depend on your zoo. Also, not everyone is into the zoo thing. I, for one, don't have zoos on my To Do list. Sorry but they're boring to me as, usually animals are asleep or lying around. Same with Disney. In fact, the only interesting things I've gotten at the zoos were a pic of 2 rhinos goin' at it Doggie style and two rhinos fighting at Disney (which our bus pulled off face so we couldn't see it). Other than that.....ehhhhh

I haven't been to all Zoos. You are correct...but Animal Kingdom is the first and only of it's kind which is all I am saying. I am glad you have a nice zoo though!

And as far as me replying to your post, this is a discussion board. Just because I am not directly replying to the OP, that doesn't mean I can't add to discussion. If we only wen't around answering people's questions, it wouldn't be a forum. I am 100% okay with opposing opinions. I hope you are too!

The first time we visited DAK we were totally underwhelmed. We did the safari and only walked around Africa a little bit. DW said “they got rid of Discovery Island for this?”
The next trip I had to force DW and DS to go back. I told them let’s do DAK the morning of our first day and “get it out of the way.” We found DAK had a lot more to offer including EE which wasn’t open our first trip. We always visit MK on the day we arrive, got to keep the tradition, but we now always visit DAK our first full day.

huh? you just broke the record for acronym usage in one post.

I feel Busch Gardens does a lot of the animal exhibits just as well as AK if not better, and the new cheetah ride should be interesting.

When AK first opened, it was a half day park for us. I was very unimpressed. If I didn't have a Park Hopper Pass I would have been very upset that I waisted a hole days worth of my ticket on AK. On top of that it closes at 6:00. With that in mind, why would anyone with a "one day one park" ticket even bother. However, we visited a few times since then and up until this last visit we still considered it a 1/2 day park. We went this last August and spent most of our day there and didn't get to see all the attractions we wanted to. So, it is getting better.

I would like to say that I miss "Tarzan Rocks." It was a much better show than the current show.

Is that the "Finding Nemo Musical" show? Worst show on Disney property. I literally fell asleep.

Look, I talk a lot of trash on Animal Kingdom, but it's not that bad of a park I suppose. I just find myself not enjoying my time there. To each his own. If you like it, hey, awesome. I wish I enjoyed it as much as everyone here

LOL, I also fell asleep.

Like I said, I feel it is getting better.

The first time my family went was in 2001. We did it the first day of our trip and despite the promotion we were expecting it to be a zoo.

We were blown away (except for Rafiki's Planet Watch, and so we haven't done that since). We go on a trip to WDW every four years, and every time since it's one of the better experiences we have on the property.

I know there's a complaint about there not being a lot to do. But, maybe we just spend too much time in the Jungle Trek and Forest Trail. And there is quite a bit of ground to cover. From the entrance to Africa or Asia is quite the walk. But even skipping Rafiki and most DinoLand we find it hard to squeeze everything in with breathing room.

ITA!!! I was never so happy for my son to have an Aspie fit and give me an excuse to just WALK OUT of Nemo!!!!! I swear DH and I fought over WHO got to leave with him LMAO.

AK isn't horrible and we do go every trip. In fact, Epcot is the one we are more likely to skip (kids always fall asleep as soon as we start WS lol).

JustInTime- yes we can discuss and I have no issues with responses to my statements (I know I'm a woman but I'm not right ALL of the time ;)). I just didn't want us hijacking the thread for our own discussion lol
