Joseph Conrad..."pbhttttt!" I cant stand The Heart of Darkness. Yes, thats right, I hate a book. :fork:
I read it in 10th grade (the only kid in the class to even attempt more than a few pages), can't stand it.
Love Harry Potter though. :D

Yes, i am quite aware that the books themselves become darker as I have read up to the 4th book (which I finished last night). They could have achieved this change of mood while keeping the school grounds the same, though. They could have changed the look of the school, but completely changing the layout seems pointless to me.

As for the old look...a lot of college students look for schools that look old. Thus, we have the Ivy League school. My school works very hard to keep the old look, with ivy overgrown on some buildings and old walkways. It adds character and history to a building, which sterile buildings that have had their walls bleached simply do not have.

I'm a college student and I've never heard of anyone wanting to go to a school because it 'looks old'. In my experience, college kids look for schools that have areas of study in which they're interested. Now, if the kids are smart enough or rich enough to go to ANY school in the world they want, then maybe they would choose to look for a school based on its appearence. That's just from a college student's perspective, though.

Also being a college student, I realize there are hundreds of schools with biology programs, so I chose a school that both has a great biology program and is aestetically pleasing. The entire premise of the Ivy League school is to be academically-demanding with a very old feel to the campus, which the Ivies do have. I know people chose my university because it is academically very demanding and looks absolutely beautiful. As an example, at this campus map: Map of SLU check out 1, 2, 6, 12, 14, 22, 41, 73, and 74 (building numbers). Several of the reasons I chose St. Lawrence over the other colleges I appliedand was accepted to with great biology programs (University of Rochester, SUNY Geneseo, Clarkson University, Cornell University).
