Whither Future World?

They really need to do something with FW. I'm sorry, but it's becoming rather... Stale. Some may not appreciate this critical post. My point of view is that of an adult, and someone that's been going there semi-regularly since opening.

With Soarin' and TT being pretty much booked solid very quickly, that leaves the older stuff... A lot of which is still cool, don't get me wrong... But c'mon.

Incidentally, just last week TT had a 55m wait by 9:15am! Then the FPs all get rapidly distributed (by lunch on busy days) - meaning if you don't run and get them FIRST thing - you can pretty much rule out ever riding them if your stay is short. Over two week-long trips in four months recently... My family (which joins me later on in the morning) have never ridden either!

- Innoventions? Used to be more interesting ("back in the day"). Now it's filled with random, totally kid stuff. Not that this is bad, but I just never go in there anymore.
- Test Track. The Design Lab is a HUGE bottleneck. The rest is a mostly warmed-over Tron and relatively stupid. The last minute is fun though. The cars (showroom) at the end is as lame as it ever was, even in the WoM days.
- The Seas. The cohesiveness of The Living Seas is gone. It's a Nemo ride and not much else now. The aquarium still has charm.
- The Land. Living with the Land is still cool. The rest? Meh. Mostly just a large eatery. Soarin' is overrated, IMO.
- Imagination!? A wasteland. 'Nuf said. The Imagination ride is anything but.
- Universe of Energy? Ellen needs to GO. It's a 45m nap.

The saving grace is that SSE still rocks. Still has the AA and scene charm, the famous scent generator, and original "edutainment" value from EPCOT Center's roots.

Speaking of which; Horizons is gone. Mission Space is not a decent replacement, IMO. Wonders of Life? Also gone.

I love Epcot, despite its "flaws." But I do find WS much more interesting and fun. FW is basically a hit-n-run of the remaining classics and that's about it. It still looks amazing and cool, so I enjoy the photography aspect of it most.

Future World definitely needs an overhaul. The Ellen ride is so boring as is the entire Imagination pavilion. Journey into Imagination with Figment was empty. Captain EO didn't have too many people either.

The original Future World was what really cemented my love for Walt Disney World. I was already a fan of the Magic Kingdom, but EPCOT really captured my imagination, and was fascinating to me. I recall tons of great hands-on and interactive exhibits. EPCOT helped me to understand some things I'd already learned. The only place I knew of that was even remotely similar was the Exploratorium in San Francisco (and I loved that too).

Just as one specific example - this was the first time / place I recall getting a real appreciation for energy / electricity - there were stationary bicycles and/or hand-crank pedals hooked up to incandescent light-bulbs and such, and it was amazing how much effort it took just to keep a simple little bulb illuminated (I've been much more energy conservation conscious ever since).

I'm not saying Future World should have remained static - on the contrary, the whole theme was forward-looking and innovative - and I'm guessing the kids of today would not be entertained by the exact same stuff - but I lament that it does seem really 'dumbed-down' from those early days ....

I too love Epcot, probably more for it's concept than it's current content. If you think about it, FW has had so few changes since 1982. Test Track (1998) and Mission Space (2003?) are really the only large replacements, and those are both already over 10 years old - I suppose you can throw in Soarin, although it is a clone. Everything else has only been an update (JIYI, Seas, SSE, Innoventions) or a closure (WoL). I was almost embarrassed taking my folks again, who hadn't been in years -- they thought it was almost exactly the same. Lol.

Sure would love for it to get some cohesion and get back to the original concepts again. I suppose sponsorships are the only hope ..

Future World has always been like that though. really that's Epcot. you never really go there for Future World, you go for World Showcase. granted it should still look better than it does now, i'm just saying the draw to the park has never really been for FW. maybe in the beginning idk.

and i always felt Epcot was more for adults than for kids, or at least older people and young adults that could appreciate what Epcot was about. it's definitely not meant to be one of the cool "hip" parks.

All I want is at least one new ride. That would help a little and that would satisfy me for a couple years. Then I would expect a major change in FW. ;)

I want Dreamfinder and Figment back...and I want the Imagination pavilion to have the second floor back with something creative...I know people have mentioned Apple as a potential sponsor...if not Apple, then maybe Crayola?
