Whispering Canyon (dinner)

We have gone to WC for breakfast and loved it. However, dinner was another story. We had a 7:30 ADR...maybe that was the difference...we were just too tired for the antics and the games.

We enjoy Trail's End...stroll over for breakfast...catch the boat at other times...WL is our fav resort.

To an extent - that is my issue with "themed entertainment". Sometimes I just do not want to be bothered - I just want to enjoy my meal and the ambiance. This is mainly at Ohana (as I have not went to others yet). I usually get a 9pm ADR on purpose knowing that woman will only sing once and the kids playing with coconuts will likely be over. I have found that by 930- even more so following wishes - the place quiets down and I can enjoy my food in peace.

I have an ADR for primetime and worried about the antics there (more so because I am solo and I do not do bars). But I am willing to try it out because I have heard the food is amazing. I think WC is too much for me though - even if I was not solo. And the menu is not all that enticing. With that said - Trails End looks amazing and I hope I will not dissapointed.

Thanks for all the great responses!

Yup, I just feel meh about it. The menu at WC reminds me of the menu at Famous Dave's (anyone have those nearby)...and that's my least favorite chain in the world.

Long as I can keep the 4yo from feeling like he's missing out--and now I think that's doable--I'm going to cancel this ADR...and probably shift things around and replace it with Trail's End! Idk why, but I had it in my head that we'd have to take an internal Fort Wilderness bus from the boat dock. I'm glad it's easier than that.

Can anyone give me an idea of about how long it takes to get to Trail's End by boat from WL, and from Trail's End to MK by boat afterwards? Not counting the time we spend waiting for the boats, of course.

Hey, I LIKE Famous Dave's!
Ate dinner at WCC last year and it was very tasty, we got the all you care to eat dinner and the ribs were really good, as well as the sides. Didn't like the fish AT ALL, no flavor. The cobbler that came with the dessert sampler was AMAZING. Also we ate at 8:30 PM and got a quiet corner, no shenanigans. I didn't much like the way the server "threw" the napkins and straws on the table, it comes across as rude, not entertainment.

The actual boat ride-time from WL to Ft Wilderness is only a few minutes (less than 5?) since they are side-by-side. The ride-time from Ft Wilderness back to MK is aprox 15 min....my best guess.
If you went to Ft Wilderness by the regular Disney bus system, you would get off at the entrance to the campground and need to take the internal bus through the campground to get to Trail's End.

I went in December and my boyfriend thought it was the best meal we had. I really loved the cheesecake in a jar. I was going for all the loudness, craziness and fun and didn't get any. Guess it was just an off night.

I'm getting so much good info here, and I really appreciate it! Now that transportation isn't the issue I thought it was, I'm pretty sure I'll switch to Trail's End. The only other dinner I'd rather have in the MK area (besides ADRs I already have booked, I mean) is 'Ohana...and I highly doubt I'll get that one!

So does my whole family! I am the only one who cringes when I hear that's where we're eating. I know my opinion is unpopular, it's always packed in there :D.

HOLD UP, let's talk about that cheesecake in a jar for a minute. What's this about, and how has no one mentioned it yet??

My teenage daughter loves it (the apple pie is outstanding). You pretty much just have to be willing to go with the atmosphere of the restaurant. it is a lot of fun if you have the right attitude. If you want a quiet, kid free dinner this is not the place. It also is not the place for those easily offended by good natured sarcasim.

The cheesecake in a jar kind of reminds me of the cheesecake in the cup at AK (and other places). As for Ohana - check to see if you can get it. But they stay booked, lol

I must have deleted my picture of it but found this one.

Do you think Whispering Canyon is a good choice for Christmas dinner? Or will it be too rowdy? I've never been there and we'll be traveling with a 4-year old and 2-year old.

You can walk it in about 15 minutes. On the map I am linking to, Trail's End is at the part of FW that is nearest WL. WCC is a really fun meal. I like the food, but for sheer fun it is hard to beat. Ask for a little Coke or more drink at some point. Ask for ketchup. Your 4 year old will love the parade they have the kids do.

It is extremely like Famous Dave's - which I happen to like a lot but I'm a fan of bbq fare. We had fun at WC (liked, not loved the food) but it's not a place I have on my return list for WDW.

I love Famous Dave's :( But I have to say after reading all the comments, I'm excited to try Trail's End someday!

We had a good meal, but they have changed the menu. My boys loved the "we need ketchup" bit, and the hobby horse riding. They also enjoyed the bottomless shakes! My husband loved the skillet, and we had a delicious trout appetizer ( not on menu anymore). The family style meal to me is better than a buffet, but I hear Trail's End is very good! I would go to Trail's End though just to try it, and for the nice boat ride over.:D
