Whispering Canyon Cafe

We have reservations for dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe. I would love to hear suggestions about the most efficient way to get to Wilderness Lodge and how much time to allow. Also, is it possible to request a table near the "action" during dinner? I've read that some have been disappointed when sitting in the back or getting a server who was not really into the theme of the restaurant. Our trip is in a little over two weeks - can not wait!!

Where are you coming from? That may be contributory to the suggestions you get for transportation options. :P

In our experience, the action was everywhere! It mainly comes from your server, so I don't think you'd feel "left out" of the action. Also the rowdy little parade with kids manifests throughout the entire restaurant. :)

You're right - a starting point would be helpful! I guess I was wondering if it would be better to from a park by bus or maybe even drive over to Wilderness Lodge by car (we will have our car with us since we are not flying). We can adjust our schedule that afternoon to allow for the travel time to dinner.

Still not sure where you'd be coming from but buses would definitely be a good option, as all four parks and other locations (water parks, Disney Springs) have direct, dedicated bus service to the resort. The only other Disney transportation option would be the boat that goes between WL and Magic Kingdom. We never have cars/drive at WDW so I can't help you there.

If you have your own car and one adult can be designated driver, then driving makes the most sense. If you're going in two weeks it'll probably be hot. Not summer-hot but hot enough that, whatever you're doing during the day, it'd be good to go back to your resort, clean up and put on fresher clothes, and drive over. If you opt to use Disney transportation, then some service lines will make more sense than others - example, if you're staying at AKL, it makes more sense to bus to AK or MK, then bus (or at MK, you have the option of boating) to WL. But however you use WDW transportation to get there, it will undoubtedly be longer than driving, and then you have to factor the time of going back.

Now, if you don't mind going straight to WL from a park, then sure when you're ready to go, jump on a bus to WL. When you're done, bus or boat back to MK and then hop on another bus there to get back to your resort. Advantage this way - if you wanted to spend more time exploring WL before or after dinner, you've got it. It's just a question of how comfortable you'd feel sitting down for a nice(-ish) dinner without cleaning up first. Personally, even if I have to "power wash" with a 30-second shower, I want to put on clean clothes for dinner; I've spent the day sweating and slathering on sunscreen, it's nice to peel some of that off first.

You have good answers on transport. In terms of "the action," they now put a little card on your table where you can note if you prefer to play along or just watch. We had a lot of fun in January and will go here again in August!

A starting point and where you want to go afterward would still be helpful for someone here to help you with transportation suggestions. For example, if you want to go to WL for a meal at WCC from MK then back to MK, one word will do it. Boat.
Other starting and ending points might take more words.

If I were dining at the Wilderness Lodge, I'd be thinking more of the overall experience. The boats are awfully cool, especially at night. I'd park in the MK lot, monorail over to the MK, boat to the Wilderness Lodge, then boat back after dinner and park storm the MK till closing. Sure, that's kind of a convoluted route, but it takes in other unique WDW experiences as well.
