Which Would You Choose

We are booked to stay at the GF Sept 13th-19th to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. Recently we've decided to head down a day early and I booked a king room at POR for the 12th. I decided to book at POR since its been around 7 years since I last stayed there and to give my husband a feel of the moderate resorts since he's never stayed at one. Our traditional first night dinner at the Californai Grill has now been moved to our second night since we're coming a day early and I just booked our first night dinner at Cape May Cafe (first time). Since we are eating there I am now considering staying at one of the Epcot resorts instead of POR. Besides the BC (stayed there last year), would you cancel POR and stay at the BW or YC for one night? We will not be going to any parks on the first day or the morning of the second - will relax at the resort only.

Thanks!

Stay at POR. Its relaxing, beautiful and you can take the boat to DTD in the evening to do a little shopping and have dinner. I don't think your husband will be disappointed. Have a great vacation!

While one of the deluxe resorts would be much nicer, it seems silly (in my opinion) to spend the extra money for just one night. You are already going to be staying at an excellent resort when you move over to the GF, so you might as well save a few dollars and spend the night at POR. It is a nice resort, and will give you the opportunity to explore something new.

While POR is different and nice, it does not offer the same things that you may beused to. Just from reading your post, you dont mind spending money for the best of things, resort and food. Do one of two things, there is a thread right now about Cape May Dinner buffet, and it is not all that appealing. So one, cancel dinner res and stay at por and go down town ( easy boat ride) to Fultons or Portabello, or two , stay at bc or yc because you wont have to mess with transportion ( two busses to get there for dinner). Have fun!

Taking the boat to DTD is definitely appealing and the grounds are beautiful at POR. I think I'll keep the reservation at POR - this will be something new for my DH to experience since he hasn't seen any moderates.

Question - if I keep our reservation at Cape May we plan to get there by boat to DTD then transfer to a BC bus. In my experience you can sometimes wait a decent amount of time for a bus at DTD - if our reservation is at 6:30pm what time should we be on a boat to DTD by? Is there normally a long wait for the boat at POR?

On occasion the line for the boat can be quite long and you may not make the first boat that comes along. If this happens and you don't have the time to wait, you may just want to take a bus to either the Studios or EPCOT and then transfer to a BC bus. If you have your heart on taking the boat to DTD, I'd give yourself a couple hours to be on the safe side.

A lot of the guide books recommend allowing at least one hour to go resort-to-resort, because of having to make transfers and all. In our experience, we usually allow an 90 minutes when going that route- you never know when you're going to miss a bus... plus, there's always something to do/see at the arrival location. So, allow plenty of time.

I think that POR is still a great choice... especially since you are going for your first anniversary. My fiancé and I are planning on going there for a romantic trip as well, and it was the first place I thought of because the grounds just have the romantic feel to them. Plus, don't forget the old saying... "It's not just the destination, it's the trip". :animwink:

If money is no object and convenience is key, I'd stay at one of the Epcot resorts.

But if you're trying to keep your budget down, stay at a POR. I'd reccomend taking a taxi on the way to the Cape May Cafe to save yourself the stress and time transferring to the resort on the bus system and worrying about getting there on time. On the way back I'd take the bus to Downtown Disney and take the boat back. The boat ride at night can be romantic as you snuggle together to keep warm from the breeze off the water.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY. : )

As for your transportation question:

We would take a bus to the Studios and then board the boat that heads into the Boardwalk area - Just get off at the Yacht Club dock. This way you still get the boat ride without the wait in the bus lines at DTD.

I'd make the move to Epcot resort. I'd also change dinner to the Yachtsman, but that's just me! If you are just hanging around, there is more to hang around at a Deluxe than a Mod.

It is true, though, that you can take boat to DTD and there is a bounty of hanging around places to visit.

You are at WDW, how bad a decision could you make? :)
