Which site do you book with

As long as you don't need a package or Dining Plan, and you're ok with whatever change/cancellation terms they set out (including full payment up-front) then I also highly suggest Orbitz. Right now they have discount code BYEBYE for 15% extra off already discounted Disney hotel fall rates. I just booked one extra night at Coronado at the start of our trip in October before out 7-night stay at Saratoga Springs.

My one complaint is that the confirmation email didn't include the Disney reservation number like it did two years ago. There was a "hotel reservation number" but it wasn't linking to Disney correctly (and it wasn't in either of the number formats that I knew Disney uses). It took Orbitz 4 business days to respond to my email inquiry asking for the Disney reservation number. (Though one they did, the new number they provided me linked right away and we were able to order the MagicBands, etc)

for best room rates for resorts?
Most of the time, it's easier and similar - if not the same - prices to book directly with Disney Travel. Everything syncs together and cancel/changes are never a worry. Sometimes prices are better on third party, but it's whether or not you want the extra work and worry of going through them. As within everywhere, there is always a trade off with price and convenience.

For general release of discounts, most TA can get you the same deal. The difference between general TAs and Disney specific TAs is that good Disney TAs track lower rates for all of their clients reservations to automatically book at a lower rate. They also contact you if there is an upgrade for similar amount.

My normal TA is use to my constant contact. She knows I look for DVC rentals or even timeshare rentals when we travel. We have canceled our last 4 trips through her because we have received unbelievable deals.

We always use MyDisney Experience and log into our account and take advantage of the Florida resident rates if we do not use our DVC points.

Convenient, yes. But in the case of Orbitz you can save a chunk of money *on top of* the discounted Disney rates. It's one of the few instances where you can do that with Disney.

As an example, a week in late-October at Pop priced out to be $880 directly with Disney and also the basic price on Orbitz. But then you apply the Orbitz discount code I mentioned and it drops to $763, a savings of $117. I think saving over a hundred bucks is worth the extra couple steps of having to email Orbitz to get the reservation number and then linking it myself. And that's just a Pop. 15% off at a Deluxe would be a much larger savings.

The only drawback from booking directly with Disney was this rate comes with a $25 cancellation fee rather than a full refund you'd get from Disney. I'd say that's worth it.
