Which really is faster?

So this topic has probably been done to death so I apologize in advance if it's a repeat. I would like to know though, which is actually a faster way to get to the park, monorail or boat? Disney claims both are equal but surely some folks on this forum have timed both. I think I like taking the monorail better, no particular reason. It's just cool.

Under perfect conditions I would say the monorail, but there are a number of factors outside your control that could make one or the other faster. People in queue at TTC/Resorts, traffic, how long until next boat/train, how many people on boat train take how long to load unload, etc.

Strictly speaking, monorail. Practically it closer to 50/50 I would think. I probably ride the boat more.

If the monorail is in the station and it does not have any departure delays, the monorail is quicker, by quite a way. The boat has a lengthy unload of guests if full, and a lengthy load of guests, which then has to be repeated at the other end.
Let's say, just me and just you. No crowd loading/unloading. I'm monorail, you're ferry boat. We both take off same time. Monorail doesn't stop at the hotels. I'm guessing monorail beats it in a full out race, huh?

If the monorail is working, it is faster.

The boat is a pleasant way to cross, especially mid-day, when it isn't packed. If you have a few extra minutes, you might want to give it a shot.

I've never been stuck on the boat for forty extra minutes, either! :)

I only have stayed off property once and it was late June. So my only experience needing to get transported from the TTC was this:

When it is a packed summer day and both lines are stretched out in the hot Florida sun you should just use the resort loop of the monorail. I waited longer for the boat than I spent waiting 5 minutes for a monorail and stopping at the Poly and GF along the way. And I spent more time sitting inside an air conditioned monorail car, which was more enjoyable than the line for the boat or express monorail.

I almost never take the monorail to MK. And I never take it coming back. I like the monorail but reserve it for my visits to Epcot. I hate sitting backwards and when I do have too, I don't get to see the Castle getting closer. On a warm, pleasant day nothing beats the ferry for a relaxing, enjoyable trip. By the time you factor in "traffic" stops I don't think there is a huge difference between the monorail and the ferry. A little yes, but nothing worth talking about.

I am in the minority but I prefer the ferry both ways. It is very relaxing and I love seeing the MK in the distance. I rarely take the monorail - only if I am doing MK resort vists.
