Check card, credit card, or cash, which do you use on you vacation? Do they make Travelers checks anymore I heard they were getting rid of them because they are easy to counterfit? Is this true? I have never used them so I dont even know where I would go to get them if they still exist.:lookaroun

I heard also that if you have a check card with visa or mc logo on it, if it is lost or stolen that your bank will replace it by overnighting it to your current location. Well I called my bank and they said that was not true and it would take 7-10 days to have it replaced so I guess my bank wants us to be stranded with no way to get money.

How do you all insure that you will not be stranded without cash but also protect yourself from sticky finger thieves?

I agree with the credit card. I take the credit card to the park with a small amt of cash (like $20 or so).

I leave the debit card in the safe in the room:wave:

We have only stayed in All Stars and the Polynesian, but as far as I know all the resort rooms on property have a safe. The was a big difference between the All Stars and Polynesian though. The all stars was a wall safe with not much depth. You could store some wallets and maybe a digital camera or ipod, stuff like that. The Polynesian was a bit larger and had depth to it so you could store many more things.

I try to figure out how much I'm planning on spending, and then just bring cash. It helps keep me in line from overspending ;)

Lately I've been using my disney visa for everything, and then just paying it off w/my debit. That way I get bonus points! I might do that in the parks too this next trip.

We always carry a little bit of cash with us each day (about $50) for snacks, drinks, etc. Eveything else goes on the Disney Visa - security and we earn points for the next trip! We always keep our receipts together and when we get home, total them up, go online and make a payment for that amount!

Although, sometimes hitting that "total" button can be frightening! :ROFLOL:

I don't use any of the above. I set up a room charge and use my KTTW card for almost everything. I use my debit card to back up the room charge. My bank protects my debit card in exactly the same way as a credit card (that is, protection against fraudulent charges, etc.).

I never carry much cash with me - just enough for food and snacks. For emergencies (or those impulse purchases!), I carry a credit card securely zipped into an inner pocket of my Disney shoulder bag - which is NEVER out of my hands.

We try to use cash as much as possible, but we do keep a credit card with us. We put extra money in our savings account and use the ATM as needed, at the resort, before we head out for the day. Usually do that twice during a visit.

Oh that makes since now!! That sounds like the easy way to do it then you are not carrying around anything of value that could get lost or stolen. SMART! Hmmm I'll have to think about doing it this way.

The Key To The World card is your room key (and resort ID) if you are staying at a WDW resort.

At check-in, you can set up a room charge. You then use your room key (KTTW card) to charge purchases in the parks and resorts, as well as many locations at Downtown Disney.

You can back up the room charge account with a credit card, debit card, cash, travelers checks, and even Disney Dollars.

It is incredibly convenient, to live nearly cashless during the vacation. If you lose your card, just report it stolen and it won't be able to be used by others. It contains no personal information, only codes that can be given meaning with access to the Disney database ... in other words, your credit/debit card information (if you used one of those cards to set up the room charge account) is NOT encoded directly onto the magnetic stripe of the KTTW card. So if you lose your KTTW card during your trip, you just get a new one. But if you lose a credit/debit card, that's a whole other story.

I carry cash that I think I will need. I also carry my KTTW with the room charging on it for emergencies such as the dole whip attack. Thats it.....

When we drive down I always bring along Travelers Checks. On one occasion we used our Disney Visa Card for everything and by the time we got to Florida they had put a freeze on it until we called and verified that yes, we were the ones purchasing all that gasoline and junk food ;)

We also have our DVC as a back up and of course some cash as well.

I use cash. I only bring the amount of cash that I'll need for that day and I keep it in one of these things (below) that I wear around my shoulder at all time. Unless I was flat out attacked, it would be impossible for anyone to steal the cash off me. I also carry a debit card for larger expenses (like tickets, etc). I don't like to use credit cards.
