Which Deluxe MK Resorts?

Some people love the Contemp, but some don't... Why is that?

I think it depends on what your priority is and what you like in a hotel. For instance CR gets a big plus in my book for the ability to walk to/from MK. When Wishes ends and droves and droves of people are pushing and shoving their way up the ramp to the monorail nothing beats the short walk back to CR. You also have the option of a short boat ride to Wilderness Lodge or Campground if that interests you. The reort is less spread out and all of the amenities are very easy to get to. I guess the best way to describe it is CR is the most practical and convenient of the 3 resorts IMHO. For a lot of people practical and convenient may mean very little for others it's important. Aside from the monorail running through the building there isn't a whole lot in terms of unique theming. If you put theming at the top of your list you probably won't rank CR high. The pool at CR is OK, but doesn't blow you away. If your top priority is the pool then BC/YC is the best but of the 3 MK resorts CR is probably 3rd.

I think when you hear people saying they hate CR in most cases those people rank theming most important and don't like the CR theme (or lack of).

Some love the AKL, some don't. Different people, with varied taste and opinions.

IMO, it's just old, drab and boring. The rooms look much better after the re-do, but not charming or especially nice in any way. Just functional and everyday blah. Doesn't entice me in any way, so I don't want to stay there. Others may like it very much and see it differently.

IMHO AKL is an amazing place, but I too have heard people say they don't prefer it. I think it's mostly for location. As far as theming and physical structure go its a close race between WL and AKL IMHO. Both have that jaw dropping initial reaction, but there are also so many little details that you find new stuff you never noticed even after multiple visits.

Thank you!
I probably wouldn't like the Contemporary because I do like a bit of theming and magic in a resort. It kind of seems like a hotel you could find in the middle of a big city instead of a Disney resort. Of course, I've never stayed there, I've only been there for Chef Mickey's, so I can't really judge.

That is a very common observation. The rooms and decor are similar to an urban hotel found in most cities. Of course the views of the MK from your balcony can't be found in any Marriott or Hilton;). I also think the Bay Lake views are underrated. It's a beautiful lake and it's very relaxing to sit and watch the boats float by.

The Grand Floridian is the only of those I have had the pleasure to stay in. It was great…but not my favorite. I think the thing that makes the GF great and why people love it, the Victorian elegance, turne me off a little bit. It was extremely beautiful, which tons of dining options. However, it did not feel "Disney" enough for me. Much prefer the Wilderness Lodge and the Animal Kingdom Lodge (even though I know you didn't ask about those). Good luck with your planning!

I've stayed several times at the Polynesian and several times at the Wilderness Lodge. They are both top notch resorts to stay at in the MK area. I would give the edge price-wise to the Wilderness Lodge, and location-wise to the Polynesian (which has the added plus of being on the monorail line). Theme-wise, they're equally excellent. I have always wanted to stay in a MK-facing tower room at the Contemporary and still hope to someday. The Grand Floridian has never held any interest for me.

I'd like to stay at the Contemporary Tower with a Bay Lake View or the Bay Lake Tower with a lake view. While the MK view would be great, I'd like to face Bay Lake. It seems more relaxing. The contemporary theme isn't everyone's cup of tea but I really like it. Part of that is because so many pictures of WDW showed the A-Frame and monorail and thus it feels Disney by its nature. We stayed in the Garden Wing and that was very enjoyable as well. My second pick would be the WL Villas. I love the WL and the Villas would be a fun experience.

The MK view, though more expensive, is (IMO) the crappier view. A parking lot, roads and a bit of the MK, which you will see in the park, anyway.

The lake views are much more pretty and peaceful. You can also watch the EWP.

If I had to stay at the contemporary again, I'd take the lake view every time!

Remember that a "theme park view" at the Contemp is the most expensive parking lot view anywhere. ;) Stay Bay Lake side.

I'd prefer a lagoon view at the Poly, with full balcony, in Tahiti.

At least on the MK side of Contemporary or BLT, you get a phenomenal view of the fireworks show. That's a big plus for being on that side.
Yep, and there is something pretty cool about waking up and looking out to see the castle.

We found the best of both worlds on our last stay at BLT. We had a lake view room on the inside facing the pool but on the top floor. We could just walk over to top of the world without taking the elevator down to 1 and then back up. The views of the lake were fantastic and very peaceful and if we looked back over top of the world from our balcony we could still see the higher MK fireworks from our balcony (just not the ground cover ones). The view out over MK while waiting for the elevator was amazing too, especially at night.

I would much rather have a high floor lake view room over a low floor MK view room.

See, this is where I think Disney is missing the boat: none of the resorts, except for the value resorts like AoA and All-Star Movies, which are very kiddie-oriented, are heavily Disney-themed. WHY??? You're at a Disney resort because you like Disney, right? So I wonder why Disney hasn't built a resort that, for instance, looks like a fairy-tale castle. It doesn't have to be all pink and purple, you know, "girly", but it could be enchanting and medieval and be totally awesome. And a Haunted Mansion-style resort would be amazing. Or a Pirates-themed resort that looks like an actual pirate ship. I'd stay in any one of those in a red hot second. And if any of the DVC villas were built like them, I'd join the DVC. I bet I'm not alone in my preferences, not by a long shot. I don't get why Disney picks resort themes the way they do. Any company could build a resort that looks Polynesian. But not every company could build a resort that has real Disney magic. I don't get it, I don't get it at all...
