Which Deluxe MK Resorts?

I am sadly not planning a trip, but, I was looking at Disney resorts I would like to stay at. I have never stayed at a MK resort. It would be so nice to be on the monorail route.

So, which is the best - Contemporary, Grand Floridian, or Polynesian?

Since I am not actually planning a trip, the price doesn't matter at this point.

Thank you :)

Well....since this is a fantasy trip, plan to stay at all of them. I would visit the WDW for 12 days and spend 4 nights at each monorail resort beginning with the Poly, then the Contemporary and ending with the Grand Floridian. The Contemporary (my favorite) has Chef Mickey, The Wave and The California Grill. It is a romantic boat ride to the Wilderness Lodge to eat at Artist Point. The Poly has The Kona Cafe....my favorite for breakfast and wonderful water sports. End your trip with 4 nights at The Grand Floridian and eat at Citrico's, Narcossee's and The Grand Floridian Cafe. But if I had to choose one, it would be The Contemporary for it's convenience and grand concourse with the monorail running though it....of course you would stay in the tower with a MK view. The Grand Floridian is quite large and spread out and I think that the Poly needs some sprucing up. Enjoy your fantasy!:cat:

I spent most of my life growing up in the walls of the Contemporary North and South Garden Wings. I grew found of it and have a lot of cherished memories from there. I would say Contemporary every day.

"Best" really depends on what you like.

I do not like the Contemporary/BLT and actively avoid staying there.

The Poly is fine, though I haven't seen the new rooms.

I like GF the best of those three. It's a little easier...a little more calm. :)

Some people love the Contemp, but some don't... Why is that?

Many people say they don't like the contemporary because it lacks "themeing" and therefore doesn't feel Disney. To each their own, but I find that argument very bizzare -- the Contemporary is iconic Disney. It is a unique A-frame building with a monorail running through it. The theming is not overt, but innate. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Right, I understand. They might feel like it's a little too modern hotel-ish. Wasn't it the first resort in Disney?

I've only been inside for Chef Mickey's. The facade looks like refurbished Eastern Bloc architecture, as though they took the Communist Party's headquarters and turned it into a hotel after the coup. The inside feels like an airport. It's wide and expansive with a rather antiseptic feel. Other resorts just urge you to explore.

GF all the way.

Maybe it's because that's where I popped the question - but I just love the GF. Monorail to the MK in the morning (first stop) and then the boat back (first stop). It's nice and quiet and peaceful.

Some love the AKL, some don't. Different people, with varied taste and opinions.

IMO, it's just old, drab and boring. The rooms look much better after the re-do, but not charming or especially nice in any way. Just functional and everyday blah. Doesn't entice me in any way, so I don't want to stay there. Others may like it very much and see it differently.

Out of the three MK Delux Hotels, I prefer Polynesian first (followed by Contemporary and then Grand Floridian). The atmosphere of the Polynesian is so lovely, and who wouldn't love staying at WDW's first hotel?! Plus, the pool is amazing, the restaurants are great, and there are dole whips!

As for the Contemporary, I prefer Bay Lake Towers (DVC Suites). Even if you don't have a vacation club, you can find websites to buy the suites. Yes, it's more expensive, but Bay Lake is worth it. However, they get booked fast. So in your circumstance, and in my opinion, I recommend Polynesian.

Exactly. I can't stand the Poly (Its beautiful), there is moisture and dampness in there and every time I enter the lobby I get instantly sick.

Between the 3 monorail resorts, which is best depends on which experience is more to your liking. Do you like old world luxury style? Then stay at GF. Do you have a love for island vacations, then head for the Poly. Do you like modern styled hotels? Then the CR is what you are looking for.

Personally I am more interested in the Poly and CR, though WL has the theming that wins me over the most when it comes to the deluxe resorts.

The Contemporary "used to be" my favorite resort, it "used to have" great themeing of a 1970's discotheque from outer space, and wall paper and carpet patterns that would give an epileptic person seizures. But this is back when Disney still cared about crating an experience that was truly "contemporary". I don't know why that can't stay faithful to the original Imagineers intentions for this resort, but I still hope... that some day... before I die... they restore the Contemporary's former glory which you can see in this photo from The Top of the World restaurant back in "the good old days"
