Where's the big TV special?

For those of you interested, mouseplanet has a few pictures from the event, and a description. I'd managed to forget Christina Aguilerra's rendition of "When You Wish Upon a Star." It was less than stellar (forgive the pun :) ).

Too bad none of this is on the so-called "DISNEY" channel.

I know, I know: It would cause disruption on the channel's "brand" management, and cause the umpteenth rerun of Kim Possible and That's So Raven to be postponed.... Sigh.

July 17th is a Sunday, so it would be perfect to have a big family special that night. It would be a great marketing tool too.

I think this is actually the plan. I don't remember where I heard it from sometime this winter, but a July TV special on the actual opening day anniversary is a better idea than just the 5/5/5 deal.

It's not a special, but it's just as cool....Laughingplace.com has video you can download of the kick off ceremony from Disneyland this morning. It features LeAnn Rimes, Art Linkletter, Wayne Brady, Christina Aguilerra, and Julie Andrews. And what's really neat is that it provides a conclusion to the first 50th Anniversary Homecoming commercial! :)

I really hope they take all the footage that they are getting today and splice it into a program celebrating this Magical Occasion. I still have Disneyland's 30th on tape....and it still plays. Maybe I should watch that instead....granted, it does have David Hasselhoff and the Pointer Sisters

Regis and Kelly will be there next week, May 9-May 13. They will be doing two shows from Disneyland and three shows from WDW. Got my VCR set for that too.

I wish they would do a TV special though.....they did one for WDW's 25th....and recreating the opening day is a cute idea!

cant they get anyone besides regis? :hurl:

he makes me want to shoot my tv.

Well said. I rushed home last night to see what would be showing on the Disney channel since I was teased with the little bit of Disney info on GMA. Low and behold...nothing there but the usual Raven, Kim Possible-crap. I miss the old Disney channel. It often had documentaries of the park that they NEVER show nowadays.

I know. It just makes NO sense to me whatsoever that they would not have any live or live-on-tape coverage on their own channel. They showed the opening ceremonies to the WDW 25th anniversary on a special episode of "Inside/Out," and it was great. Other media was there (like GMA), just as today, but Disney was where to find the best coverage. I still have it on tape, and I put the Roy Disney audio on a tape that I use when I am driving to WDW.

It just makes NO sense to have the Disney Channel not cover the parks' celebration when they are asking others to find a reason to be there. Why should they, when the Disney Channel itself does not see fit to cover it?

(Raven is obviously more important...)
