Hey, ya'll - where the best place to work Ops?

I'm so pumped! :sohappy: I'm almost through the process....again! I applied in the sping of this year and was accepted as CP for the fall, but I had to decline :( , so I'm trying again, and everything is going smooth so far. Can't wait to get out of the desert, even if it's just for eight months!

I really, really, really want to work in the Magic Kingdom, but I want to keep my options open. Any suggestions? Thanx!

Do they even give you an option? I got assigned to my park the day I arrived and then after a quick phone interview, they gave me my attraction assignment. (Fantasmic/ToT)

That was (yikes!) 4 years ago, though.

Have you already interviewed? If not, they usually ask you if you have anywhere in particular that you would like to work. If you have, then it's really too late to have any say in the process. Then again, even if you do request somewhere specific, there's no guarantee that you'll get it. As far as good places to work, it really depends on your personality. I worked Splash Mountain, and I couldn't have gotten put on a better ride for my interests. I've also heard good things about Thunder and Space in the MK. Those tend to be more active and fast-paced with more guest situations (because of height requirements, long waits, fastpasses, etc.) Along those same lines, Test Track was also well-liked by the people I knew who worked it. I've heard that Coaster at MGM isn't really a happy place to work, but the guy I knew from there was there 2 years ago, so things might have changed. I do know that Coaster and Tower now have an awesome coordinator named Cindy! I know Soarin' has a bunch of good managers, and if you like being in air conditioning, that might be a good thing to request. However, if you like interaction with kids a lot, you might enjoy Fantasyland (floral skirts and all). Main Street ops is another position where you get to have a lot of guest interaction. You do the front gate turnstiles and the parades, including PACtivities.
Overall though, I would definitely recommend Splash Mountain. The full-time cast there is amazing and will keep you laughing till your sides hurt.

Tower

My answer: Tower.

I've been working at tower for over a month now and I couldn't imagine myself anywhere else. I originally was hoping for RnRC, but I wouldn't change if given the opportunity to do so.

The key to all of this is performance themeing. We are not merely cast members moving people along, but bellhops serving our guests. When Tower was built they put a lot of detail and story into it. I am so blessed to be placed in, what I feel to be, the best possible job for me at Walt Disney World. Others mileage may vary, but this is the best position that was available to me, and I wasn't even asked where I would like to work! Someone is looking after me, I'll tell you that.

thanks a million!

thanks, red and serg!

I just wanted to see some recommendations from past and current CMs, so I know what to request during my interview. I interview later today.

Thanks, again!

When I transferred here (I am in merchaintainment) I was given three choices as to where to work: the Candy Caldron (I was not interested in making any candy apples, so I passed), Cast Connection/Property Control (a bit too far from where I was going to live), and Pooh Corner at DTD. I picked PC, even though I am not a Pooh fan. I loved the people I worked with - it was an excellent choice! All this was done over the phone before I transferred and moved here.

Haunted Mansion, Tower, Great Movie Ride, or Jungle Cruise would be my dream jobs. There's not too much of a character you can get into working at any attraction in The Land pavillion.

Anywhere on Sunset Blvd is great.

Fantasmic, Tower, Coaster or TOTS.

Sunset has the greatest managers, and from what I saw, the best CM's at WDW.

I agree it depends on your personality. Personally I didn't want one of those big rides or park greeter and was very happy to get Buzz Complex in Tomorrowland. Actually I had asked my recruiter for Tomorrowland (minus speedway). One reason why I loved Buzz Com was that we rotated through so so many attractions a day and weren't stuck (although sometimes it happened) at one all day.

Well, I work at Mission Space and love it! During my interview, the lady asked what was my favorite ride and Mission Space was on the top of my list. However, I said that my favorite park was MGM... Well, they had to choose just one of my interests. I wouldn't mind working Rock'N'Roller Coaster, though... :D

I know we met briefly like during my training when my group would go to Space sometimes and I'm pretty sure we would see eachother sometimes in Alien breakroom.

Who do you tell what attraction you would like to work at? Does this have to be done during your interview? I really want a major thrill ride like Rock'N Roller Coaster or Splash Mountain.

You don't "tell", you can't choose your work location. However, if you love a ride and and you tell them that, and if that ride needs people, and if you are choosen to Operations, then they might put you in there.

when i got hired i told them id like frontierland. they said that was possible but couldnt garauntee and certain attraction. Luckily i got where i wanted to go. I think its all personal prefference. Depends on the costume, the location, what your ultimate goal is. Lots go into it.

Splash Mountain

Does anyone here know someone that worked Splash Mountain, or has anyone worked it? If so, send them here to post their experience...I'm really curious.

Oh, and in case I didn't menion it, I got in and I'm doing Operations - yay! Thanks!

Beware that Operations can mean working just about ANYWHERE. I got an operations role and ended up working at PI (which I hated until I was cross-trained at Cirque). If I had to pick where I wanted to work at WDW. Ad/Lib (Adventureland/Liberty Square) Attractions hands down. Ad/Lib you can work: HM, HOP, Jungle, POTC, etc ALL which would rock!
