Where to stay?

Hi all!! This site seems great. I have lots of browsing to do but I'm wondering if you would share your favorite places and why?

We are a family of 6 - which limits places. We have 4 kids 8, 7, 4 and 1 and time of travel in September/October.

I wasn't overly impressed with the value resorts (well the pics I saw) Are they nice? Would you recommend them? We really wanted the Carribean, which requires two rooms. So that led me into looking at the Grand Floridian. Pricey but nice and on the monorail system...

I went inbetween and was looking at Port Orleans too. Thoughts?

Where are your favorite place - and why?

what do you mean, renting points? Villas - like the beach club villas? I *think* we were too many for the one bedroom?

Yes, there are certain message boards where you can go to rent points from DVC Owners, or, even easier, you could use some companies that sell points themselves. DVC is a bit more lenient with room occupancy than Disney direct. We stay 5 very comfortably in a 1 bedroom. All you would need is 1 portable crib and you'd be good. Now, at worst, the 2 bedroom villas at Old Key West and Saratoga Springs aren't all that many more points than a 1 bedroom at Beach Club, Boardwalk or Wilderness Lodge. If you'd like some more info, feel free to message me.

Thanks!!!! and OMG on the reservations. I don't even know what the options for places to eat are LOL!!!!! You mean like just for dinner and what not? Or like special character ones?
All of them! Be Our Guest and Cinderella's Royal Table book fully at 180 days out and most character meals not long after! Especially Chef Mickey's and Crystal Palace! What ever you do do not eat at Hollywood and Vile!

Welcome and happy planning!:)
All Star Music Suite (value) is nice and sleeps up to 6.
The value resorts are cutesie w/ oversized iconic images and it's a "motel-like" atmosphere w/ only quick service ( like fast food, but a bit better) meals, bus service only, an outside corridors only.

The Cabins @ Fort Wilderness IMHO are the best "bang for your buck". It sleeps up to 8 , and has all of the comforts of home. There is an "internal" bus system to take you to the main pool complex and food area. May I recommend making reservations for Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue!? Some people rent golf carts to get around, but that can get pricey!

2 rooms anywhere ( especially Port Orleans, Caribbean beach, and Coronado Springs) might be worth it. All of the moderate resorts have that "motel" feel as well, but are just a bit more "spruced up" w/ a slide at the main pool complexes. They also have sit down table service restaurants. I enjoyed both Port Orleans Riverside ( the boat to Downtown Disney) and Caribbean Beach ( lovely).

Of course the Deluxe accommodations are the best!:D But, the most expensive!:D It's mostly about convenience and transportation. My favorite is Wilderness Lodge, but your family would have to get 2 rooms, or rent a Villa. Deluxe resorts have "signature" restaurants on property, and those are so awesome! ( expensive, but if you're on the dining plan, it's 2 table service credits). I truly enjoyed the Polynesian as well. the Spirit of Aloha Show is a must do at least once, and it has the best restaurant on property IMHO: 'Ohana.:D

Overall, it depends on your choice of "theme", and which park you think you'll spend the most days/time at. If you're going to be mostly @ Magic Kingdom, then Grand Floridian, Poly, Contemporary, or Bay Lake Towers is perfect, but very pricey! Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness have boat launches to the Magic Kingdom!:D
If EPCOT or Hollywood Studios is your park, then stay at Beach Club, Yacht Club, or Boardwalk ( villas).
If Animal Kingdom is your park, Animal Kingdom Lodge is a wonderful place to stay! You'd need a villa at Kidani Village, but watching the animals ( savannah view ) is worth it if you like to do that kind of thing.:D

Welcome to the boards and good luck w/ your decision! I'm sure whatever you decide, you'll have a Magical time!:D

Listen to Figgy about the dining reservations! We booked our trip for this year about 140-120 days out and there were very limited options available! None of the restaurants that everybody wants to visit. Be Our Guest will fill up IMMEDIATELY! Cinderella's Royal Table will, too. There are Quick Service restaurants, too, but I don't think you'd want that everyday although there is a vast variety of food in those locations. I suggest getting the Unofficial Guide and reading it through. It will give you 99% of what you need to know before your trip. Do some research also. It seems like a lot of people miss out on some of the big attractions because they didn't know they were there. Also people seem to not have a great experience because of lack of research. I've heard horror stories of how people didn't think there was anything but stores inside buildings! So make sure you plan and research. :p

You're probably feeling overwhelmed right now so sorry for that! But your trip will really be enhanced with some of the tips that have been listed here!
