Where to stay along the way!

We're driving from NC to All-Star Music Resort. We're leaving after my son gets out of school on Thursday (3pm) so expecting that we'll stay somewhere along the way? Savannah GA? Brunswick GA? Anyone have a good place they stay when they drive around that area they recommend. I was considering Jacksonville but that's a bit of a haul for one day! Advice appreciated!

Driving from WV we stopped in Kingsland, GA once and stayed at the La Quinta there. I think there was a Cracker Barrel close to the hotel. It wasn't a long drive the next day. Happy travels.

Great question. We will be driving from NC in October and leaving right after our son gets out of school (3pm). So I was wondering the same thing.

We made the drive from Virginia once and stayed at the Country Inn and Suites in Port Wentworth, GA. Nothing too fancy but it was clean, offered a nice breakfast and was very affordable. Would stay there again.

How far is Port Wentworth to Disney, do you remember?

It was between 4-5 hours. We checked out and hit the road by 8ish and was in Orlando by 12:30 and that's including a 30 minute stop. I might have exceeded the speed limit a little during a portion of the drive. ;) It really seemed to fly by though. And it was nice because we also stayed there on the way back and it allowed us to spend more time at Disney on the last day of our trip but not have to drive too far before we took a break and got some rest.

It depends on where in NC you live--west or east. I used to live in DC and the drive to Jacksonville is 12 hours. And that drive, obviously is through eastern NC.

....let me ask ...where in NC are you leaving from ...and are you close to I-95?

....reason being ...I'm in central NJ ...and drove to St. Augustine, Fla ...in 14 hrs flat last trip. Usually we stop in Brunswick, Ga ...but were making such good time I just drove another 1.50 hrs and got that much closer.

From NC I'd go all the way to Orlando. Even if I checked into a seedy little flop at midnite or 1 am on Idrive it can't be but 600 miles from any given spot in NC going into Orlando ? That's about what it is from my zip code in Houston to almost PCB ocean front....at least the exit off I-10 to PCB. I left Houston at 7 pm and was in PCB at 3 am checking in and had to make a couple of stops for the kiddos. IF you are leaving at 3 ish even with some dinner time traffic and a stop or two for food and bathroom you should be on top of WDW by 1 am I would think and probably sooner....

I'm not sure where the OP is from, but I am just outside of Rocky Mount and actually only about 2 miles off of I95. I have driven it a few times, once straight through (it takes about 11 hours, not including any stops), this last time we left home around 7 or 8 am and drove to Palm Coast to spend the night with friends before heading to Disney the next day. I think we arrived in PC around 3pm if memory serves me correctly. So we can drive it straight if we need to, but if we don't leave until after work then I'm not sure we can make it the entire way without falling asleep at the wheel. Of course fueled by Disney excitement (and some excellent tunes on the IPod) anything is possible!

Yah I looked at it on pc miler and it looked like 600-650 miles which like I said is similar for me to go from my side of Houston to PCB and depending on what time I leave and the number and length of stops it is 10-12 hours travel time mostly interstate .

I always seem to have young ones in the car with me so sometimes the night travel is best....they sleep...I drive

Brunswick and Kingsland, Georgia are both wonderful places to stop. They have a bodrillion motels, gas stations and places to eat and everything is super-close to 95. I prefer Kingsland, but just because it's a shorter drive the next day...and because you cross the Florida border very quickly after you get back on the road.

But, really, Brunswick and Kingsland are both fine... the best bets. :)

I think it's great that you're stopping overnight and getting a good nights sleep before you hit the parks. That's the best way! (IMO.)
