Where to live?

I had two older brothers I was always stuck sitting between in the back seat, so I understand...
My sister always slept most of the time and of course she is bigger than me so she would take up more room and have pillows and everything. Thank God for the portable DVD players and headphones and of course tons of candy. :)

Can I join? I'm a Tennessee fan...so you don't even have to make jokes about us because we do it all on our own.

Of course. But we'll need to move over to the Sports forum and the thread @21stamps started for NCAA football. All are welcome! Even Gators....

The question to ask is, why the move? Finishing school and looking for employment? You need to look at employment numbers...I think Georgia would be better than Florida, in that instance.
I'll be graduating nursing school and I'd like to move to a new place!! I can pretty much be a nurse anywhere, so my options are kind of open

I would be more worried about getting burnt out on an 8 hour drive each way before I'd worry about getting burnt out on Disney. As a nurse, it would be quite easy to just get hired some place and try it out. That's a really great career choice when you're not sure where you want to live.

Living in Florida has never interested me too much. I don't want to be so close to disney that I risk getting burnt out on it.
I think LAKid mentioned the income taxes, that's a major benefit. If the reason is being too close to Disney, then there are many places in Florida that are farther from WDW than the places mentioned in Georgia are...it's a lonnnggg state.

Good luck with your decision! :)

I second this. I don't know how high state income taxes in Georgia are, but they must be high enough to make it attractive enough for people in the neighboring Florida counties to drive across the state line to purchase cigarettes :hungover: and gas, both of which are heavily subsized at the state level via a state income tax. And Georgia may still charge sales taxes on groceries.

If your concern about living in Florida is being too close to Disney and not wanting to get "burned out", I'm in agreement with @Surfin' Tuna that an 8 hour drive each way to make regular weekend visits would be burn out. I live a 4 hour drive away in Tallahassee. I love Disney. But I can tell you that 4 hour drive after a weekend at Disney (we frequently do long weekend trips, as we are APs) burns me out. And that's another thing to consider. If your plans are to visit WDW more than 2-3 times a year, it will be better to purchase an annual pass. The full price $679 Platinum Pass. If you're a Florida resident, you can purchase that pass at the FL resident rate or the two seasonal passes only available to FL residents (just make sure to check blackout dates). And, unlike non-residents, Disney has a monthly payment plan for FL resident passes. DVC members can purchase annual passes at the same price a Florida resident pays, but they must pay in full. Disney runs Florida resident room rates that many times beat all other discount offers.

Anything on Florida's East Coast will put you 2-3 hours away. Honestly, I'd recommend the Florida Panhandle. You'd be a reasonable driving distance away for regular weekend visits and much better beaches, if that's attractive to you. Pensacola is the city I'm specifically thinking of...several large hospitals, one associated with FSU's medical School, so plenty of employment opportunities for a nurse. It would be about a 6 hour drive to WDW from there. You're also within reasonable driving distance to NOLA and other nice cities along the Gulf Coast. And some of the best damn seafood on the planet. Nothing beats Gulf shrimp.

Congratulations on getting your degree!

ETA: Don't worry about hurricanes (unless they're the UM kind. ;)). Matthew last year was the first hurricane to hit Florida in 10 years. Hermine, which came through my part of Florida, was the first hurricane to hit since Kate in 1985.

Agree with everything but one small correction.. I think the regular Platinum pass is like $749 or $798. Can't remember which, but I know it was close to $800 when I purchased mine. Huge difference if you're a FL resident! #shouldakeptmylicense

You are correct Stamps. I transposed numbers - that's what I get for posting before I've had my first cup of tea..... :p

I'm on coffee #3 and still not all together yet. Lol

I hate to admit it, but I'm still in my pjs and under my blanket... It was in the low 50s last night! In Florida. In May. And it will be chilly again tonight and tomorrow night. Current temperature? 59. It won't get into the 70s until mid afternoon. Crazy weather these first months in 2017. Not that I'm complaining it's cool, in May. :D

I'm moving to Savannah, GA next March. Only a 4 and a half hour drive from WDW (I'm in Illinois right now)! I probably will only go once or twice though, because I'll be working on a Master's degree and will be constantly busy

Forgot about Savannah - great place, amazing arts scene. And isn't it just across the river from Charleston?

Nope, Charleston is almost 2 hours Northeast. Savannah isnt all that and a bag of chips. If you're in the suburbs its bettter but its very different than most any place you've ever been or lived in but what do I know, my family's just been in and around the area since the 1740's and my mother still lives there. Cant toss a rock more than a few yards without hitting a relative.
