Where to eat outside the World

Every time my family and I travel down to WDW, we always try to go by Friendly's in Orlando. It's a chain but we don't have them in Upstate SC. The food is good but that's not what's important.

They have ice cream sundaes and other desserts that are absolutely wonderful! Most of the time we stop by on our way in to WDW and just order dessert. MMmmm. Reese's PB Sundaes...:slurp:

I have tons of Blues Brothers t-shirts. They do have very good deserts though.

cymbaldiva, try HOB again. You might have just had a bad meal.

Thanks man, but it wasn't the meal (not that I cared for it much either - I so miss the fried chicken!), it was really the service...he really treated us like tourists who would never return again, and as for so far, he's right. I've never had a CM (are they CM's at HOB?) be so rude! The first time I went to HOB ruled! The food took a bit long - I didn't notice, but the manager did- and I got free beer while waiting! And the food was awesome, BTW (God I miss the fried chicken!)!!! The next time I was there, the CM was so nasty that the food was not even a priority...I just can't go back. It's a shame too, the atmosphere is way kewl, and they might bring back the fried chicken....

I can´t believe nobody has mentioned Bahama Breeze! It was my favorite place while I lived in Orlando! It´s on International Drive and I just loved the place. Even the wait for a table is nice! The food is very good and the portions are big. I always ordered the "half portions" and had enough with them. Of course, you can´t miss dessert there! They are also delicious! :slurp:

Bongo´s is nice too although I don´t remember eating there... I danced, had a drink, but don´t remember if I ate anything! I do remember they have a little window outside where they sell coffee and pastries... don´t miss the guava and cheese pastries! :slurp:

Wolfgang Puck´s.... I tried the Express one... I was on Disney paycheks  but it was always good! :animwink:

There is also a TGIF at the Crossroads, but they don´t sell my favorite dessert from the TGIF here: the chocolate "turtle". :animwink:

I haven´t tried it, but MargaritaVille´s at Citywalk looked nice and Jimmy Buffet´s music is very nice for a hot night in Orlando. :animwink: I went to the Jazz Club there and the prices were very high then... not sure how they are now, but it was a nice place to go have a drink and listen to a jazz band.

You have all made me want to have some dessert now! :animwink:

At Crossroads, there's Jungle Jims which has good ribs, and a PB&J deep fried sandwich (sounds wierd, but kicks butt). There is also a place called the Crab Shack or something like that there as well and they have a killer clam chowder. Maccaroni Grill is also a favorite of mine, but those are everywhere! Cattleman's is really good for prime rib, and I like Damon's which is nearby too. Dan Marino's at Pointe Orlando has really good "munchy" type foods and burgers. Also, I do not remember what it is called, but the restauraunt at the big big big Marriott is really good, but pricey ($cha-ching$). Overall, there are tons of great places off the world, but I still like eating there!!!:D

I should have known that before! New England Clam Chowder is one of my favorite soups! :slurp:

server

I don't know. I don't think that disney hires servers for the privately owned restaurants in DTD. Although if I remember correctly they do reserve the right to audit the service and quality of these places. It is part of the agreement they have with Disney for being allowed to be on property. The amount of money that the on property restaurants in DTD pull in per year is unbelievable and chains and restaurateurs would give their first born to get into DTD.

I agree with you. Disney directly doesn´t hire the servers for the restaurants in WSC, so I don´t think they do it for the ones in DTD.

Oh...

Well I do know that Disney takes a percent of the total sales of the rest. That is why they are more money.

Also, another small fact: Disney Quest makes 1 million dollars profit a night. WOW!!!

All I know is that the guy was a total jerk and is the reason I won't eat at HoB again. I would have someday gotten over the friend chicken (D*** that was good fried chicken! :slurp: ), but I won't get over being treated so badly.

There's Uno's Pizzeria in the Crossroads, as well. I used to go there with my g/f on Sat. nights to play the NTN trivia game in there (Sat nights is Playback Music trivia) -- so -- now you know why my name is 'ntn_haqqer'

Anyways.. the pizza is good here, but the service totally sucks. The bartender has a bad attitude and doesn't care, plus the regulars that sit at the bar on Sat. nights are totally rude. So, now I just stay inside the world and totally pass up my Sat. night trivia runs when I'm at Disney now :)

However.. the TGI Friday's in the Crossroads Shopping Center has NTN trivia -- so -- I could go there ;)

I too have enjoyed the Friday's while on vacation - good food, good service, and the waiters there weren't nasty to me! Not to mention cheaper than on property...:)

The service at Friday's is the same no matter where you go. I used to be a corporate trainer for TGI Fridays 1995-1997. I'm not sure if that rule applies now, but back then it did.

And yes.. the food is ALOT cheaper here than it is on property. It's just amazing how when you cross State Road 535 going into the Crossroads Shopping Center, the food is $1-2 cheaper than what it is on property. If you get a burger at Fridays, its $5.95 (depending on what you get). But, if you go to a fancy restaurant inside Downtown Disney. you're going pay upwards up to $7 for a burger.

Repeat after me......

"HIGH-WAY ROB-BER-Y" ;)

Now I'm not sure about all that...the one I've been to in my home state left quite a bit to be desired - both food & service wise - but the one at the Crossroads has always been most excellent!

I think Crossroads has some of the best restaurants, that being service, price, and quality, off the World's property. There's a little bit of everything there, and I like that about it!
