Where to eat if dining alone?

I'll be at WDW by myself for the Everest Preview this weekend and I was wondering if anyone knows if there are any restaurants that are better for a single diner, in terms of availability, menu, location, etc....

Chances are, I'll just pick one on my own and try it, but I'd love any opinions...Thanks!

I usually stick to counter-service meals when I'm alone(which is often). I would just feel a bit weird sitting by myself in a nice sit-down restaurant.

Well you are already in DAK so how about Tusker House, Flametree BBQ or even Rainforest Cafe?

I would stick with counter service too, just because its easier.

Wouldn't bother me a bit, but that's a personality issue.

If I really wanted a steak, or fettuccine Alfredo, I'd head to the proper restaurant.

I probably wouldn't linger after eating, however.

I've eaten at a lot of sit-down restaurants on my own. The only problem is the timings of service get all messed up. They time food prep based on people who are sitting and talking amongst themselves, not someone who is just eating. The gaps between appetizer/entree/dessert can be long and boring.

Some restaurant servers pay better attention than others and tweak the timings. I've occasionally suggested that they order everything at the same time and bring whatever is ready when it's ready... holding off on dessert though!

I second Tusker House, the food is AMAZING and I wouldn't feel awkward being there alone.

If you want a sit down what about Mamma Melrose's? I don't know if you'll be in that area but it would be a good place to dine singlely.

What about Boma? With all the getting up and sitting down I hardly ever converse with people in my party there anyway. Plus, you can eat all the YUMMY ZEBRA DOMES you want without having anyone to answer to across the table. heheh!!!!!

You could always try the bar areas attached to some restuarants such as 50s Prime Time Cafe. They can give you the food as in the actual restaurant but its more of an atmosphere to accompany singles.

I always eat by myself, since I usually go by myself...and I am one of those people who has NO problem going to a restaurant by myself....one caveat -- you need to make reservations just as if you were going with a group of 2 or 12...they don't set aside "single tables" and you can't get one without a reservation at peak times. Pick the restaurant you want, call Disney Dining and make your reservation, and go enjoy. I absolutely second the post above that says the timings get all messed up. Order your food, and ask for everything to be brought at the same time. I even order my dessert at the same time -- from experience, the last thing you want is to wait for 15 minutes for your dessert to be delivered while staring at the walls and wondering why it is taking so long. I ask for my check while I am dining as well, while one of the servers stops at the table to check how things are going. You can estimate 45 minutes for your entire dining experience. Note that the servers sometimes are MORE ANNOYING if you are sitting by yourself - some feel they need to come talk to you to keep your company, I guess. Apparently southern USA norms are different from northern USA norms where nobody cares if you are at a restaurant by yourself. I usually bring a book or magazine to read, or postcards to write, to avoid these unnecessary social intrusions. If they insist, I entertain them with tall tales -- "I train dogs for paramount pictures"..."I am a writer for 'My Name is Earl'"...

I would suggest the Biergarten at Epcot because they seat groups together anyway. Granted, you wouldn't actually end up eating alone, but who knows, you might make some friends.

Beaches and Cream has fabulous hamburgers and you could sit at the counter (don't attempt a Kitchen Sink alone though.)

Thanks everyone for the replies...

I'll probably end up trying a couple of those suggestions. I'll be getting to WDW on Friday afternoon and staying until Monday morning, so I'll have 3 nights to experiment restaurants...

See everyone there!!!

I've eated alone a ton of times when I visit, It can be a great experience and don't feel akward about it!!!!! You will either find other people around you who are friendly and chat or alot of times, your CM will spoil you silly.... I love CM's!!!!! They make my meal very comfortable!!!

Try Japan... They put you at large tables... Also Biergarten... but don't let that stop you from trying something you always wanted to try - espcecially since you are on your own and may ski something because someone else might not want to try it!!!

Relax and enjoy!!!

It's not so bad.....

Unless I find company, Disney is a good place to try it. It's not like dining alone anywhere else....:)

& if you feel like you need to do something other than people watch while dining, I usually bring something Disneyish, like a new book or whatever to read while I'm there.
