The show "History Detectives" will be investigating where Mickey Mouse really came from!!

It should be intresting, I hope we will be able to discuss the show here!

I took a cultural studies course this past semester, and I wrote an A- paper (highest grade in the course too might I add, out of all three of his classes...)

My paper was on the historical and cultural value of mickey mouse...

I don't know whether or not most do know this, but for anyone who doesn't

Walt originally created Oswald the lucky Rabbit, who was his cartoon character to take him to fame. He and Ub Iswerk first created Oswald for Universal Studious, however whoever owned Universal then, actually fired Walt and Ub because Universal actually owned the rights to Oswald, and so Oswald was stolen from Walt and used for Universal. Walt lost his job and had nothing left.

However, during his time drawing Oswald, there was a little mouse that would wander around on his desk from time to time that Walt actually fed and kept somewhat as a mouse. Walt would feed him bread crumbs and drops of water. When Oswald was stolen from he, he decided to draw a cartoon Mouse (who looked A LOT like Oswald at first). He named him Mortimer Mouse, but Walt's wife did not like this name, so he changed it to Mickey...

The rest really is just history :sohappy:

Yeah, I believed that story was mentioned during the Man behind the Magic Tour in the DS, but I remember hearing about that. If that is what the story is about, Oswald or Walt's mouse, non-the-less it should be intresting.
