Amazingly, I lived 12 miles away from Ausable Chasm for the first 15 years of my life and the next 50 within a ferry ride from Burlington and I have never been there. Was it worth the effort?I love the ferry ride across the Champlain to Plattsburgh -- so pretty cruising across the water.I took it once when I wanted to go see Ausable Chasm, in upstate New York.
It's just icky nature stuff. They call it "The Grand Canyon of the Adirondacks" so if you can book a commercial flight that happens to go over it I'm sure that's enough to have the full experience.
I actually have seen it from the main highway bridge that goes over the gorge, so I'm good I guess!

While nicer then Ausable Chasm, it isn't nicer then Burlington, Vt. Burlington, Vt. at least has a hill or two, plus a pretty big fresh water lake to reflect light off of!
