Sooo... what did everyone get me?
I got you an Olympic medal. I'm sure you'll find some use for it.

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
Well @JenniferS I just cracked a tooth or had a filling fall out. Either way not in my plans for the day.
Sympathy like.
Nobody plans on dental issues.

Back in my parents'/grandparents' day, you kept your teeth until they started to bother you or cost you too much money; at which time, you had them all removed and got dentures.

Our generation is expected to sell your car, sell your kids, cash in your RRSP's, rack up your credit cards ... whatever necessary to keep every one of those pearly whites until the day you die.

NY state requires cars to be inspected every year - there are 2 parts: safety ($10) and emissions ($27). If you fail either part you can't get an inspection sticker and you will get pulled over. They change the color of the stickers too so it's easy for a cop to pick out the expired ones. License plate renewal is part of the vehicle registration fee (I think) every 2 years. The inspection is a huge pain in the rear. It takes around an hour and EVERYTHING has to be in working order - brakes, tires, lights, no cracks in windshield, etc. They always find SOMETHING you have to fix to have it pass. Last year is was a belt that cost $100 to replace. This year it is the brakes and 2 rear lights. And of course I wait until the day before it expires just to make things interesting.

It is required here too. Isn't it fun?

Some counties in Ohio had emissions testing every two years but I think they all got rid of it a few years ago. All I have to do now is show up at the DMV and pay my registration renewal fee which is about $45 a vehicle. Actually I don't even have to go in, I can mail in the renewal form or pay online and they mail me my new sticker.

I wonder what the benefits of having your vehicle inspected are? I would be more afraid that they would do something wrong while inspecting it.

I think it's for safety, technically. But it might just be a money racquet.
