I can't remember what I've told you about my Christmas tree saga... I've told multiple people at this point. But a quick recap... I bought two unlit trees in order to achieve a "traditional" style of tree with the warm colored lights and tinsel garland. The two trees didn't work out, so I returned them. I tried just putting the lights on my pre-lit tree, and it honestly looked good. You can't tell there are unlit lights unless you look very closely. I went to Walmart and bought red and silver garland today. I love how it turned out!

Thanks to those who gave feedback about Beauty and the Beast. I ended up buying two tickets for it and will give them to my mom for Christmas, with the stipulation that I could find someone else to go with if she actually isn't interested. But I thought it'd be something different.

I'm sure she will love it. Are you going to go with her? If so I'm sure she would love the gift even more.

In addition to administering meds, there are nursing aides here who can come and help with tasks like going to the bathroom, getting washed, dressed, etc. I broke three toes 18 months ago and I almost requested assistance but as I was able to put a stool in the shower and my daughter helped me in and out the first time (and after a couple of days I felt steady enough to get myself in and out of the shower). I was grateful we moved a few years ago into an apartment with two bathrooms because I would not have been able to get myself in and out of a tub/shower combination and apartments with only one bathroom always have a tub.

Yeah, I can't shower until I take the bandage off in a few days because I am not supposed to get it wet, and I can't get in and out of our tub. I'll have to just sponge bathe for a couple of days. The good news is that the right foot feels a lot better today and it's easier to stand on it to get up to go to the bathroom, so I think it will be fine in a few days as long as I don't try to get up more than I'm supposed to. The bad news is that my left is worse than it was yesterday, so we'll have to see about that one. I hope I didn't tear anything.

Early yesterday morning, I drove my folks to, and from, my Pop’s hometown of Poth, Texas for an annual meeting of a Czech Catholic organization they’ve both belonged to since childhood. The town has a population of about 2,000, and is about a 2 hour drive south-southwest of us, and about 30 minutes southeast of San Antonio.
Carolyn and Matthew would have gone along too, but it was kinda’ a last minute (coupla’ days) deal, so Matthew (autistic son) couldn’t get off work, and he needed to be there by noon. Plus, he’s still dealing with issues of us having to put Ranger down.
My folks both still drive locally (Mom is 86 and Pop is 92), and even drove to Lafayette, LA to visit our lil’ sis and her family a couple of years ago, but our youngest daughter (Sarah) drove them to and from LA on their last trip, earlier this year. And, BTW, my folks both actually still have perfect driving records…!!!
But, they have both also slowed down considerably in the last couple of years.
Anyway, we had, yet another, great time together…!!!!!
Some pics below, as y’all knew there would be…!!!

After the annual meeting, they presented a 3K check to the local volunteer fire department, of which my cousin, Clarence, is a member…check mark above him in the first pic…!!!
Plus there were a few other donations, in the form of scholarships, etc….!!!



Then there was, of course, food…
The kitchen area of the church hall, my plate of lasagna, chicken Alfredo, Caesar salad and Texas toast (hey, we’re not savages ) and my dessert plate of baked apples (apples, raisins, brown sugar, cinnamon, etc.), with vanilla ice cream and one of Mom’s brownies…!!!!!


After that, there were door prizes, and Mom won a plant (which I forgot to take a pic of ), and I won a beautiful plant for my Sweet Carolyn…!!!!!




Then, there was BINGO…ohhh, how my grandmother (Pops Mom) LOVED BINGO…!!!!!
And, she got very vocal during those sessions…!!!!!
There were 12 games…I won one, Mom won one and Pop won one. The below was all 3 of our prizes…!!!!!



So, we ended up walkin’ outta’ there with 2 plants and $30 cash…!!!!!!!

Local organizations across the country are what make communities strong. They don't always receive the press they deserve, but luckily are firmly rooted in the hearts and minds of past and current residents. Scholarship donations, as well, are paying it forward by investing in local students.

Also, the food looked delish!

(P.S.: I like the black cowboy hat on the gentleman next to Clarence! Always a "novelty" for me to see those, as I rarely see one up in our area. There are tons of baseball (style) caps up here, though, not necessarily linked to any teams. )

After all that, we headed to the church cemetery to place flowers for relatives that have passed.
Carolyn has all these flowers that she purchased for these occasions in bags in our bedroom closet, and she sent me with many (have I ever mentioned how much I LOVE my wife…? ).
Anyway, the grave markers are for my Uncle Richard and Aunt Jo Ann, my Uncle Paul and Aunt Marie, my cousin James and my grandparents, respectively.



On side notes…
My Aunt Marie is still alive, but has been in a nursing facility because of Alzheimer’s for over 12 years now, which my Uncle Paul was in with her before he passed. The doctors are even perplexed, because Alzheimer’s patients usually only last about 3-5 years after being admitted to a facility. They say her heart is just still so very strong, even though her mind is so horribly affected.
Aunt Marie and Uncle Paul are the parents of my cousin James that passed, as well as my cousins Clarence, Yvonne and Mary Elizabeth, who are all still with us.
My Uncle Paul, his son James, and my Uncle Richard are also military veterans.
On the last note, if you zoom in on James’ grave marker there is an image of a tractor. That is an image of my grandfathers old Farmall tractor, that James and a buddy of his restored to show quality, and even had it in a few shows before he passed.
When I rode on it with my grandfather as a child, and then eventually drove it myself before he passed, it was a bit of a rust bucket. Just surface rust though, nothing deep. It’s in a shed behind my grandmothers old city house, I forgot to ask Clarence for a pic of it and we had to head home before we could see it, but the below internet pic would be pretty accurate…and darn if it doesn’t look like it based on the family farm I’ve posted pics of before…?!!!



Anyway, yea, it was a pretty darn good day…!!!

But, based on the pic of my awesome San Antonio Rodeo outfit below (from 1966, that I’ve posted before), I may hafta’ invest in a nice pair of boots and Stetson hat…!!!!!

The food was very good…!!!!!

And, although cowboy hats are still very prominent in more rural areas here, they’re not as prominent as they used to be in the larger cities, due to the major influx of folks from other parts of the country.

I have a nice pair of boots from my Dallas office colleagues (translation: my dear friends in Texas) from the party they gave me when I "retired" from the company I'd helped found 25 years prior.

When the company changed hands again a year later (the original owner, my boss/partners son bought it back) and I returned part time, they only jokingly told me I'd have to return the boots.

I have a leopard-print straw cowboy hat I bought at Animal Kingdom about 15 years ago. It's totally me, and I love it.

I have another straw cowboy hat that's maybe a bit more authentic, with some turquoise beads as a hatband, I took that one when I went to Nashville earlier this year for my cousin's son's wedding.

Speaking of Texas…
I was on another site a coupla’ days ago and someone was sayin’ how flat and boring the drive through the Texas panhandle was, on their way to the west coast, and saying how much they’d hate to live in Texas.
Yes, you drove through the uppermost part of our pretty big state, which is pretty much a part of the Great Plains…!!!!!
I didn’t even engage with that person, but I should have posted the below…!!!!!

Hey, Texas Panhandle Traveller, the pics (all from the internet) below are of the main highway I used to drive to and from work on every weekday, here in Central Texas…



Enchanted Rock is also in the Central Texas hill country near Fredericksburg…



The highest peak in Texas is Guadalupe Peak in West Texas at 8,751 ft….



Then, there’s the piney woods of East Texas…



Not to mention, Palo Duro Canyon is actually in the Texas Panhandle, not too far from Amarillo…granted, it ain’t no Grand Canyon, but it definitely ain’t flatland-fugly…!!!!!



And, I didn’t even cover the vast Texas Coast.
Bottom line, Texas ain’t as big as Alaska, but it’s definitely one darn big, geographically diverse state…!!!
