Somethin’ else that came up while we were sittin’ around the dining table today conversing, that I had totally forgotten about because the last time it came up was years ago.
Back, just after my folks had married in 1960, my Pop worked for an insurance/financial company called Fedmart Financial, in San Antonio. The company had 4 other offices in the US.
Anyway, Mickey Mantle had invested in the company and he dropped by to give them all a pep talk. He shook everyone’s hand, including Pops.
And, when Pop worked for IBM in San Jose, back in the day, he played on an IBM slow-pitch softball team.
One of his teammates had found out that a certain famous (at the time) retired MLB pitcher, who tore his rotator cuff and retired in ‘69, was living down the street from one of the teammates friends.
It was an open league, so anyone could join.
It was Don Drysdale. He never pitched, but played outfield, usually center field.
Anyway, I thought that was all kinda’ cool…!!! :)

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.

In other news…
My next youngest bro with the lung cancer has definitely lost weight, since we saw him on Mother’s Day at Mom and Pops.
He sounds good and says he feels pretty good, but, of course, he has his good days and bad.
They head to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston for more treatment on Tuesday morning.
Fortunately, MD Anderson is ranked as the top cancer treatment hospital in the US.

Prayers, please.

Hey, I spy a Winnie the Pooh honey jar on that food island, too! ;)

As usual, your parents put out a great spread. (I noticed the veggie dip plate; haven't had veggies with dip for ages. The grocery store sells those small containers of dips, and I might buy one this week. Might incentivize me to eat a few more veggies, if I can dip them into something tasty! :D

Sorry I'm late with Fathers Day, but I hope all the dads of human, fur, feather, or fin babies, and also stand in dads, had a great day! We celebrated on Saturday because my in-laws had a birthday party to go to yesterday and it would have been too much for them to have us come for fathers day and then they had to go to the birthday party. E and I made a nice breakfast for DH, and then we went over on Saturday morning to my in-laws', then went to see Lilo and Stitch, and went out to dinner. Good day. We also made brownies and Tiramisu for DH and FIL. I think they were pretty sufficiently spoiled.

Yep, a Winnie the Pooh cookie jar…good eye…!!! :)
And right next to my parents plethora of meds…at ages 86 and 92, we’ll cut them some slack…!!!!! :hilarious:

Yea, Mom and Pop take care of the main items (smoked pork ribs, smoked sausage, beans, etc.), and others contribute something. For example, SisIL made the awesome chunky potato salad and, one of our nieces made the coconut cream pie, etc.
We were supposed to bring a salad, but accidentally left it in the garage fridge…!!!!! :hilarious:
And yes, there’s almost always a small charcuterie plate and veggies with dip.
I may have indulged in those a bit too much before the main meal, as that’s why my plate isn’t piled a bit higher…!!!!! :hungry::hilarious:

Anyway, more great family time…!!!!!

Sorry, no pictures, but I think I thoroughly spoiled hubby yesterday. He got his favorite dessert (Texas sheet cake), breakfast (which I don't normally make) and his favorite dinner (pot roast/potatoes/carrots)
I didn't get pics either but the guys had corned beef and cabbage instead of BBQ due to the never-ending rain. Dh said no cake or pie because he got on the scale Friday

Mike and I met when he was in grade 9 and I was in grade 10.

We didn’t start dating until three years later when we worked together at a pizza joint. 40 years later, here we be. ❤️
My wife and I met when we were both taking an evening division US History Course at the University of Vermont. That was in June of 1971 and we got married in January 1972. Just a little over 6 months from the time we met. We only made it 29 years so I guess everyone was right about the danger of quick turnaround engagements. It was good until is wasn't! It did produce two very nice and accomplished humans and they produced four others so everything had a positive outcome. Because of that last sentence, I have absolutely no regrets.
