That would most likely McGuire AFB. I flew United to Desert Storm under arms and ammo to get there but flew back on a C5 to McGuire. It sucked going because we had a 90 minute layover in Paris and I would have loved to at least walked around the airport but we couldn't get off the plane. I shouldn't say we couldn't because I was an officer and if I gave my rifle and sidearm to an NCO I could have done it. It just didn't feel right. I was the highest ranking on the plane and since I didn't no others did. We didn't lock and load till we were wheels down in Saudi. I think it is now joint base Dix McGuire Lakehurst? Something like that.
Yes, it is joint base of the 3 now. Lakehurst and Ft Momouth closed about the same time with Lakehurst moving most to the joint base and Ft Momouth moving most to Aberdeen
I agree it's probably where @Goofyernmost landed

Yes, McGuire is indeed was. That happened to us as well. It was about 5 or 6 hours to Tokyo from Bien Hoa to refuel and head across the Pacific. We weren't allow to get off the plane at that stop and the next one was to Seattle. (they did let us get off the plane there while it refueled) Those days there were what were called Stretch eights. That was a DC 8 modified to increase the capacity by putting seats closer together where there was no leg room at all. Talk about cramped. Not to mention those were planes that were no longer considered usable for regular commercial airlines, some torn seats, rattled like crazy and even the crew were people that probably flew with the Wright Brothers. It made it but probable only by my will and continuously pulling upward on the seat armrests. Good times!

I. Hate. Friends.

I also do not love Lucy.
I don’t mind Friends.

I share your lack of love for Lucy.

Though my brothers USMC reserve unit was based at Fort Schuyler in NYC, they came back from Desert Storm via Wendover in MA.

I was there in the summer of 1998 when I was first courting my girlfriend...who after my 2 weeks with her, she became my fiancee.....and then became my wife.
Additionally I was there in 1999 when I came to get her to bring her to America for the beginning of our life together. Then I was there in the summer that preceded the winter we all first ever heard the word "covid". My last visit to Indonesia was in the Summer 2019. You may recall we also saw Singapore that summer.
So this will be the first time since then.
We'll be in Indonesia for 14 days but out of America for 16 days. It takes a day to get there a day to get back.
Oh wow! So how did you meet your wife? Were you already dating when you went to visit, or did you meet her when you were there for some other reason?

It was a 1998 version of match.com
(No .com though)
I was interested in dating a pretty Asian girl but in my town back then Asian girls were scarce. Today the Asian population in Brick NJ is much more.
Anyway....
So I did "pen pal letters" with her and additionally a once a week long distance phone call. Eventually in 1998 my school district provided traditional computers...big ones....using a mouse. I learned how to use Yahoo email and my Asian girlfriend also learned how to use the computer at her Indonesian workplace. So we "talked" on the email as well as on the phone. After 7 or 8 months of doing that I bought a round trip plane ticket to Indonesia which allowed me to spend 14 days with her. We were indeed a match and so after the 14 days I proposed....I bought the ring there in Indonesia.

I love Friends, but there are a lot of popular shows I don't like. I can't stand Seinfeld...I just don't think he is at ALL funny. I also didn't like Everybody Loves Raymond. No, they don't!! S.ex and the City....never seen a single episode. I also never watched Greys Anatomy, but that was because I already watched something else and didn't have time to get into another show, so I've never seen a single episode of that one either. I love Gilmore Girls. I tried to watch Schitt's Creek but couldn't get into it. It was ok, just not something I was so into that it was worth the time. I'd rather read.

So it wasn't just getting engaged two weeks after you "met". I met my husband online and we talked on the computer for a couple of years before we even considered dating. I was already seeing someone, but when I broke that off, my now husband admitted he had a crush and said he'd like to have a chance. And here we are about 25 years later, married. I'm not sure I'd dare to do it in this day and age, but back when we got together, there were a lot fewer internet predators!!

My favorite sitcoms. 1. Friends. 2. Parks and rec. 3. That 70s/90s show. 4. Schitts creek. 5. 30 rock.

I watched one of my favorite movies yesterday. Return of the King: The directors version.

Of course, because the movie is so long - it took me like 3 days to finish it.

PS - I've only seen Friends and That 70s show out of those.

Very coincidental re. the 25 years. My wife and I celebrated our 25th anniversary 7 months ago.

How are you guys doing with the smoke there? It was on the news here this morning that there are parts of Canada and the US where the air quality is horrible. I hope you are ok!
It’s okay (not great) where we are right now. Apparently much of the province is under an air quality advisory.

I have a persistent dry cough still from that stupid medication that I stopped, so if I’m coughing from the air quality, I can’t tell the difference. My eyes are super dry and itchy, but again, it’s peak allergy season for me, so who knows?
