Sitting at Pep Boys waiting for my car to be inspected. I'm pretty sure that next to the customer waiting area is the worst possible place to put the tire section. I'm congested and I can still smell them. I feel bad for those with full nasal function!!

I'm so excited - I get to yell at someone today.

My car failed inspection because the jackwagon that did my brakes installed the left pad on the right side and the right pad on the left side. For them to fix it here it would be $127 for the parts and labor. I'm going to have to call the guys that did the brakes so they can fix it for free and also pay for the $10 reinspection fee. Anyone here like confrontation? I'll pay you $20 to call for me.

Why do you have to have your car inspected? Is this in connection with getting license plates renewed?

NY state requires cars to be inspected every year - there are 2 parts: safety ($10) and emissions ($27). If you fail either part you can't get an inspection sticker and you will get pulled over. They change the color of the stickers too so it's easy for a cop to pick out the expired ones. License plate renewal is part of the vehicle registration fee (I think) every 2 years. The inspection is a huge pain in the rear. It takes around an hour and EVERYTHING has to be in working order - brakes, tires, lights, no cracks in windshield, etc. They always find SOMETHING you have to fix to have it pass. Last year is was a belt that cost $100 to replace. This year it is the brakes and 2 rear lights. And of course I wait until the day before it expires just to make things interesting.

Our inspection is just for emissions. It only takes a few minutes, but it's a 40 or 50-minute round trip to drive there, and depending on when you go you might have to wait in line for a while. So you have to wonder just how much the emissions test requirement is really helping the environment.

Here you don't have to go through inspection for the first 5 years of a new car purchase. After that it is every 2 years and you can just go to the DMV to have it taken care of for free. It involves a long wait for your turn though.

We have emissions testing every two years for cars aged seven and over.
The cost is in the $50-range.

So, I went back to the dentist this morning.
This time I met with my own semi-retired endodontist/dentist/dental surgeon.

He thinks he can still save the tooth, put posts in, build it back up, and re-crown it.

I go back on 11/10 (a weird day for me) and he'll start the work. He's 80% sure it will work, but won't know until he actually "gets in there". If it's a no-go, he'll proceed with the surgical extraction; the first step in the implant process anyway.

And oh yeah, today's x-rays revealed that I would need a bone graft for the implant, but I'm stalling the Google/YouTube thing 'cause I really want the crown-thingie to work. Fingers crossed.

Some counties in Ohio had emissions testing every two years but I think they all got rid of it a few years ago. All I have to do now is show up at the DMV and pay my registration renewal fee which is about $45 a vehicle. Actually I don't even have to go in, I can mail in the renewal form or pay online and they mail me my new sticker.

I wonder what the benefits of having your vehicle inspected are? I would be more afraid that they would do something wrong while inspecting it.
