DH and I had a weekend away for our 24th anniversary this past weekend. I figured I'd post food pictures, because those seem to be what the most people are interested in.

We went to a Greek restaurant on Saturday night. We both ordered the Athena plate, which had Suvlaki, suzuki, gyros, and rice. It also came with salad, but I don't eat cold sauces for the most part, so I had them hold the salad and I ordered the green beans instead.

The green beans, which we had not expected to come in a tomato sauce, nor be covered in cheese. DH didn't like them, so I removed the cheese and just ate the green beans. They weren't the best, but they were vegetables.

What's a Greek restaurant without Baklava? This was DH's. I have to watch my sugar intake since it was high last time, so I only had a tiny corner. It was really good though, and I'd never had Baklava with orange zest, but I liked it.

The next morning we headed to Bagels and Beans for breakfast. This picture is not from that day, because this is my go-to order at Bagels and beans and I already had a picture of it. It's a Vega Love on a whole grain bagel with Vegan chive "Cream cheese" It's got roasted eggplant, zucchini, red peper, onion, pesto, parmesean flakes, rocket, and pine nuts.

Sunday night, we went to a Tapas restaurant here in town. The old Tapas place we used to go closed months ago. We noticed this one a couple of months back, but had never been there, because A is very picky and there's nothing on this menu he will eat. And since it's all-you-care-to-enjoy, you pay by the person, not by what you order, which is a waste of money on someone who is paying to eat nothing. Especially since this one falls in the high range for all-inclusive meals. But for a date night to try it out, sure.
This place had some pretty good options and some pretty crumby options. It wasn't very consistent, but we got enough to eat and the things that were good are worth going back.

The spare ribs were good. We both ordered them a few times. I'm not sure what the sauce was, but it was Asian, I think.

The menu called these "Garlic mushrooms" but it wasn't just garlic sauteed mushrooms. I LOVE mushrooms, and I didn't like these much. The olives really didn't match with the other flavors, and I don't like tomatoes. They are fine in a sauce, but I don't like little cubes, etc. These were also overly oily.

Pinchos Brie, which were little crostini bread with brie, fig jam, and a walnut. This was good, but could have been better. They obviously cut some corners. The toast things were not fresh. I've bought the crostinis before, just in a bag. If that had been freshly made, and if the dish had been warmed so the cheese was melty, it would have been super. It would have been one of my favorites. They were fine, and I did order a 2nd portion, but they could have been really top notch.

Korean chicken. Sure. It was a chicken strip with some sauce on it. Again, if they had actually made it fresh instead of just throwing in a frozen chicken strip, it could have been so much better.

DH's chicken Satay skewer. No idea if it was good or not. I can make Satay sauce at home, and when I go to a restaurant, I like to do things I can't make for myself. It doen't seem worth it to pay for something I could make cheaper and possibly better at home. DH ordered a few things that I didn't take pictures of, like a meatball with mashed potato, and a ceasar salad. Nothing really photo worthy.

Soto Ayam. AWFUL!!! Inedible. Don't know what's in it, except Ayam is chicken, but it tasted like salt water. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and say they must had added too little water to the buillon block...like 50ml of water instead of 500ml. Or tablespoons of salt instead of teaspoons. DH ordered it, tasted it and asked if it was just him. I tasted it...nope, not just him. Next time we go, we'll take E and have her try it. She loves soups and often orders things like ramen, and if it tastes the same, we'll know it wasn't just a fluke.

Steak with pepper sauce. It was fine....the sauce wasn't great and the meat didn't have any flavor without it. Not my favorite.

Camembert bites with fig jam. Disappointing....it was another thing that if they had made it themselves, it could have been really good, but they cut corners by using frozen deep fryer snacks instead of making it fresh. Camembert can be finicky, and you have to be careful that it's not too old or it will taste like amonia, but this was just....cheap.

This was the star. I don't even know how many times I ordered this....it was SOOOOOO good. Goat cheese wrapped in bacon and drizzled with honey and sesame seeds. I'd go back for this alone, and I think DH was in agreement. We both ordered it several times.

I ordered this mocktail....they had regular cocktails, but I really don't like the taste of alcohol and I prefer mocktails. There are some drinks I can handle, like Amaretto, Bailey's, Mozart Chocolate liquer, but in general I prefer my drinks sans alcohol. This was called a Virgin Lady, and the menu just said Orange and strawberry. It was not just orange and strawberry. The top had some frozen raspberry on it, and it tasted a bit like POG juice, which I do not like, because I don't like most tropical fruits. Mango, Passion Fruit, Guava, Pineapple....no thank you. It was on the weak side, and I sipped at it for our entire time and hadn't even finished it a couple of hours later.

The desserts: There were a LOT to choose from! Mine is the Lemon cheesecake. It's basically in a glass slightly larger than a shot glass, so it's small, and cheesecake usually doesn't have as much sugar as some other deserts, so that's what I went with. DH had the Apple crumble and the cookie dough shell filled with ice cream. He said they were good. The cookie dough thing looked a bit like the consistency of mochi....like it's kind of dry and chewy, but I didn't taste it, so that's just my opinion based on what it looked like.
