Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
I am sincerely hoping that my next life provides me with parents that are well off and want to bring their child to all the parks. I've never experienced the parks as a child, my first trip I was 35. Watching the Mouseketeers, in the 50's, on TV running around Disneyland I already know is not the same experience.

Please keep in mind that I have no immediate plans to vacate my current life anytime soon, but in all likelihood the next time I go to WDW will be in whatever next life I have.

Be just my luck I'll come back as somebodies support penguin and have to stand on the hot Florida pavement longing for an available freezer.
I didn’t experience WDW as a child either. First trip was in my mid 20’s.

I have great memories of the many, many trips we took, but I’m in no rush to return to WDW. Too much has changed. Partly me/partly the greed, but the magic just isn’t there right now. The “value” probably will never return. So many lost perks.

I might feel differently once the grandkids start coming (if they ever do), but for now I’ll stick to convincing Bestie we need to go back to DL. At least in CA, you can stay off-site for a reasonable price and actually be within blocks of the parks.

Today’s trip down Memory Lane…!!! :)

The home my Pop’s mother grew up in, their barn, and my grandmother is the little girl at the bottom in the center of the second pic…!!!!!

And yes, that house, and even the barn too, are huge. Plus, those are two snowmen in front of the house in south central Texas. Unfortunately, not sure of the dates those pics were taken, but probably around 1912 or so…!!! :geek:

I first visited Disneyland in the summer of ‘68 at age 5. Have visited 4 more times since…’70, ‘72, ‘87 and ‘10. Unfortunately, we haven’t visited since.
First visit to WDW was on our honeymoon in December of ‘88. Carolyn was 25 and I was 26.
Have visited several times since, including the “Worldwind” trip when we flew in and out with Emmy on the same day back on October 29th, 2019.
We’ve done cruises with Emmy and Audrey, but, as far as DCL cruises go, we did a 5-day with them back in December of ‘22. All our other cruises have been Carnival, although Megan and Daniel took the girls on a RCCL cruise a little while back. DCL is just too expensive, but the one time was fun with all the Christmas stuff goin’ on. 🎅
We also went to WDW with them in October of ‘23 and late June/early July of last year.
All great trips, and we made great memories, but it’s all just getting too complicated in regard to planning, and too expensive. We have no plans to go back to WDW anytime soon.
The next thing we have coming up is another week-long family Carnival cruise at the end of June, out of the Port of Galveston on the Jubilee…!!! :)

I was lucky that my Mom's grandparents lived in Clearwater FL and many summer vacations involved going to visit them. Because of the free place to stay my parents had some money then to take us to WDW as a day or two side trip. I think my grandparents often paid for our tickets as a treat for us. My mom was a huge Disney fan, a Mouseketeer fan from the 1950's, but without those visits to see her grandparents I don't think we would have ever gone to WDW as a family my parents just didn't have the money. I realize how lucky I was to be able to go. If reincarnation is a thing I hope my next life is one with even more indulgent parents (or maybe the same ones but with more $$$).

Reasonable at DL can even be right across the street. (I love Disneyland!)

I first went to WDW in 2002, when I was in second grade. I'm not sure why my parents first decided to go... probably just to take their kids to Disney. But whatever happened that first trip was fun enough that we've gone nearly every year since. Our biggest gap was 3 years between 2019 and 2022. And before that, we switched to every other year for a little while. They haven't always made good money, but this is the one thing they would splurge on. But back then it was 5 or 6 day trips, no park hopper, etc... we go a little crazier these days.

My dad has also had some health issues over the past few years, and I think that's spurred my mom to not be stingy and just go. He's not going to be able to do these full trips for too much longer, so make the memories while we can. That's also part of the reason my dad and I have gone down earlier than the rest these past few trips. We're the two biggest Disney nerds, and we could live there.

When I went to Disneyland way back in 2005 (Disneyland's 25th) I stayed in a hotel on Walt Disney Drive if I remember correctly. It was a Red Roof Inn back then, but I'm sure the name and color of it's roof have changed possible dozens of times. It was a short walk from there to the parks. If I ever go back to a domestic Disney Park again, it will be that place. I also loved Universal Hollywood when I was there too. I really wanted to go to Tokyo but with my circulation becoming a little weak, I am fearful of Blood Clots for that long a flight. I'd love to see it but I can't really justify speeding up the process of dying just to see a theme park. Seems like to big a tradeoff.
