The plus side of a "snowstorm" here in Raleigh is the quiet. No cars on the roads, no sound of spinning tires from teens with a lot of money and can afford to buy replacements. It's almost surreal. I'm really out of practice for this stuff. I didn't even remember to get the window scrapper out of the trunk.

Being a Midwestern guy, we drive in snow this deep like it is rain. I think the people here are nuts when it snows. The one thing I missed when we lived in Florida was the seasons. I was a big skier before I broke my neck. We don't get much snow here. We get stupid ice which is awful and causes days without power. I am good with snow. Don't get me wrong, I am not good with cold, But I would rather have snow than 5 degrees.

Exactly! We don't smoke in our house or cars, so we have been out a few times on our covered front porch to smoke and watch it. Several times I have put my second monitor on our outdoor camera feeds just to watch it. I am not going to lie. I have a nice pour of whiskey in my hand and I am paying way more attention to the camera feed than the television.

I don’t think I knew about the broken neck. Recent … long time ago? Skiing? Any lasting repercussions?

Mikes brother broke his neck in his second (not at fault) motorcycle accident. That’s what made him retire the bike.

It's bleeping bleeping, we're only going to get an inch or so but I have to go grocery shopping at some point this weekend. Maybe Sunday morning when it will be a whopping 22 degrees at sunrise:cautious:. The car will be all nice and warm by the time I get in it and I'm bringing a pack animal:angelic:

I broke my neck in 2011. I wish I had a great reason, but I slipped on water and fell flat. We had a leak in our roof and it would run down into the light fixture in our front hall. We would put a towel down on the hardwood when it rained. One night when it was really coming down, I went to look and check if I needed to change the towel. Unfortunately the water had shorted out the light and thrown the breaker and it was dark. The puddle was huge and I was just in my socks. I took one step into the puddle and my feet went out from under me and I was flat on my back. Being the brave male I am, I decided to just deal with the pain. By an hour later my left arm was pretty numb, so I decided I had a pinched nerve in my shoulder. Long story short, after six days, I was kind of dragging my left leg and the pain was pretty much unbearable. I finally agreed to go to the hospital. They checked me in at the ER and the original doctor who saw me agreed it was probably a pinched nerve, but he wanted to take an X-Ray just in case. After the X-Ray it was taking forever, so I asked if my wife and I could go out in the parking lot and have a cigarette (I smoke a lot when I am in pain). We were outside smoking when a bunch of medical staff coming flying out of the ambulance bay and one shouts "where is the guy with the broken neck?" Another shouts "It's him" while pointing at me. Twenty minutes later I was on a helicopter heading for the main hospital in Orlando. I cracked C2 and fractured C3 and C4. I was very lucky. Damage to C2 usually ends up in being paralyzed from the waist down. Because of my stupidity of not going to the hospital after it happened, I have nerve damage in my left shoulder, arm, and hand. I have 30% loss of mobility on my left side and the tips of my fingers go number when the pressure drops low. I am a human barometer, but I live a fairly normal life. All in all I was very lucky! When they showed me the X-Ray, there were shards of bone all around my spinal cord, but none nicked it!
