Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
When I was a kid, we alternated every year. One year we would get colored lights because my sister and I wanted them and the next year my Dad would get his favorite... all blue lights. When I got older I remember those blue lights and how great they looked on the tree and I bought all blue and loved it. I don't do a big tree anymore, and only do a small table top one on occasion that is multi-colored. I do miss the blue lights and tinsel.
My mom’s tree was red and blue lights - some of which (not all) were blinkers. Red and silver glass balls. Silver garland tinsel.

It was the same every year, and she worked hard to make it perfect. There were no kitschy ornaments, no hand-made masterpieces, no carp from school.

When my kids were little, we had the fun tree, and my show home Victorian tree. Now we just have the one. I’ll leave it to you to guess which.

I like tinsel my DW like garland and my grandmother had garland and angel hair
Angel Hair is something the we never had because back then the bulbs on the trees were extremely hot and many people in our neighborhood had fires caused by Angel Hair flaming up. Many did use it, but, my mother wouldn't have it. And you know the saying.. If Mom ain't happy, ain't nobody happy. :in pain::joyfull:

I think it was because they got so hot?
I don’t remember them being any hotter than the regular bulbs, which actually sure could warm up.

While we’re strolling down memory lane ... stockings were the best. A huge navel orange, a perfect waxy red delicious apple, a Pez dispenser (with refill candy), some chocolate balls and coins, and a candy cane.

Absolutely perfect in its simplicity.

We always got an orange - DH's family always got a shiny penny, so we always included both in the kids' stockings.

When I was in high school, I was friends with a guy that had 8 siblings and he was the oldest. For Christmas they each got an Orange, a pencil and a towel. I was embarrassed when they asked me what I got. I didn't come from a rich family, we were often scraping the bottom of the barrel, but, by comparison we were grossly wealthy. Now, no one asked them to have that many children, but, they did. Other then producing babies, his mother cooked everything from scratch and his father worked for Hood Milk Company in the processing plant. I don't think he made much money. When they asked me what I got, I went for the least expensive thing I got, one of many gifts, and that was underwear and socks. Even that sounded extravagant to them, I'm sure. I'll never forget that Christmas. They weren't dirt poor, they did own a decent, comfortable home with three bedrooms shared by 9 kids, but, it was a shocker to me.

mine has been up for a week but its still naked

Mine's been up a week, too, but I got the lights up the other night. Half the ornaments up on it. I'll put the other half up once I can find where I put the box last year! :p

Also, I have to buy a longer power strip. I can barely reach (behind the tree) to plug/unplug the lights, and it's a contortionist effort for me to get to it. My dog barks at me when I start cussing out the situation :hilarious: , but then again he just hates the tree, period. Translating his barking, I think it means Bah Humbug! ;)
