Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

It was just announced this week that Billy Joel is going to be performing in Orlando in January. My little sister is now also a Billy Joel fan and has been saying she wants to see him in concert, so it looks like we'll all be going.

Excellent choice. Hubs and I saw him at Madison Square Garden for his big turn of the century concert, to ring in the year, 2000. Put on a great show--wonderful backup musicians as well.

Interesting, something that stood out in my mind was the fact that he acknowledged the people who had bought seats behind the stage (in other words, they were looking at the backs of the performers on stage--not seats in the expensive categories, but only what they could get as the show was sold out, well ahead of time). I think it was twice, that Billy and the performers all turned to those people and played directly TO them, as he wanted to thank everyone who came to his concert, not just the ones in the prime viewing, very expensive seats. That image stayed with me--thought it was a nice gesture. (Note: we were not in that section, as we were off to the side in a better location.)

Some crappy pictures from yesterday. It’s a whole Harry Potter themed downtown area of small town America. It was really cute with all the local merchants participating. Also had a a Quiditch tournament going on.

Yes. I haven’t watched that show regularly since I was teenager. Most of the characters appear to be the same, but man, they got old!

I hate to miss the beginning of the news, so I’d rather tune in 10 minutes early; but I sure as heck don’t need to see Ancient Nickie and Victor.
Speaking of TV... I watched two new/old show on the tube this week. First, Murphy Brown (CBS) was back and feisty as ever. Loved it. If you liked her before, you won't be disappointed. Older, but, except for a few extra pounds the character has not changed. The guest star, as Murphy's possible secretary, was incredible. If you missed the first show hopefully it will be on YouTube soon. Second, Last Man Standing (FOX) made the move to Fox after there show was dropped by ABC. They spent some time dissing ABC, but, otherwise it was pretty true to the story line. No two programs could be more coming from different directions that Murphy Brown and LMS, but, both managed to pretty much stay within the boundaries of their original theme. Another new one, that was very funny, was a show called "Cool Kids" (FOX). Well worth the watch.

I watched Murphy Brown and Cool Kids, I was entertained by both and I'm looking forward to more episodes. I was unsure about Murphy Brown, it had been a long time since I had seen the show and didn't remember much, but it did a good job of reminding viewers of it's past without slowing down the pace. I enjoyed the special guest as well.

Babysitting at DS' house today, which is a ways up the hill from the downtown area. Quite bazarre watching people in all kinds of magical mystical Harry Potterish costumes walking by to the festival. Cutest was a fairy family - 3 preteen girls and a very little one with wings and tutus. Pretty cool.

I saw @Nemo14 's post about seeing Quiditch being played and it reminded me that one of my former students plays on a Quiditch team in college. He goes to Wooster in Ohio and it is actually a NCAA sport. I was surprised about that but he has a fantastic time playing it is fun to hear his stories about it.

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
I am undecided about Murphy Brown.

I thought it was pretty stilted and stiff, much like every pilot I’ve ever seen; except of course, these kinks should have been worked out decades ago.

It was too political for me, and as a Canadian, I’m not sure I got all the jokes. In all fairness though, with the exception of @Eric1955 , I doubt many of you would get Corner Gas.

I’ll definitely watch LM again, but it won’t be must-see for me, like it was in its original run. 🙁

I’m so happy for Last Man Standing to be back. I love that show. Last Man Standing, The Goldbugs and Penn & Teller: Fool Us are currently the only shows I watch on network television.

Corner Gas is such a great show. I was going back and rewatching the show but I haven’t watched an episode in a couple weeks since finishing season three. You’ve reminded me I need to go back and rewatch season four.
I don’t like the new Mandy.

I definitely prefer the old Mandy. The show was still good though. It’ll be an adjustment but I can live with it.

Yeah, Son #1 told me they were re-casting the only daughter I liked. 🙁
Is Kyle gone, or re-cast?

This isn't the first time the had to recast characters in the show. The first one was Christen, back when the series was new. They couldn't have picked a more unlike image to do that. Kyle is still there with a brand new haircut that is just with no mullet and Boyd is also a new actor. For that one though, he's been looking different every year anyway, so a smooth transition. They recast Mandy because after they were cancelled she found new work, but, that one is going to be tough to fully replace. It might have been easier if that had found a replacement about two feet shorter.

I was impressed at how well they stayed away from specific political reference, something that the previous years had formed a lot of the show around. He stayed in his, now almost sickening stance as a right winger, but, at one point denounced the far right as well as the far left. It seemed clear that he was not going to shout out the praise of the current national situation. That is a good thing because at the first mention of any favoritism of anything orange, I had my remote in my hand and it would have been cancelled in my house once again.

EDIT: The ratings came out today and it was higher then the original premier on ABC. I don't put much stock in that because they are now on FOX and I'm sure that a whole lot of current supporters where looking for validation and didn't find it, but, were just reminded, a lot, of the turmoil this had brought about. I don't think they will be back. I almost didn't watch it because it was on going to be on FOX. Then decided to be more willing to see what they did with it then worry about it and then remembered that this is not the news department.

I should call it the Country Store or Gift Shop....not the waiting room.
There is something comforting about Cracker Barrel. No matter where you go they are all exactly the same. That said, I did go to one off I-95, I don't remember where exactly, Georgia, I think, that had the dining area on the Right side instead of the left. Threw me right off my feed. I was confused and completely disoriented. It took all my concentration to keep heading south.

Original Kristin > Replacement Kristin
Nick Jonas Ryan > Left Wing Annoying Ryan
Young Eve > Older Eve

Since you found it OCDish to correct my spelling ;) I am compelled to tell you that Eve is the same person since the show premiered. The young Eve is the same one except older... therefore the younger/older Eve. I had forgotten about the Ryan switch, thanks for that.
