Where in the World Isn't Bob Saget?

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
@Songbird76 - I was talking about you to my BFF’s hubby today, and mentioned how you bike everywhere. He asked what you do in winter.

I have no idea, but he figures that your winters are akin to Canadian winters. If so, you can’t possibly bicycle in the ice and snow, can you?

Forgive me if you’ve already answered this.

I'll be curious to know as well, if Songbird76 bikes in winter.

As a side note here, I know that the fat (tire) bikes are starting to get more popular with winter riders. Haven't seen many around here yet, but I think they're kinda cool. However, I would assume that one of the drawbacks to winter biking (in general), would be the colder winds coming at your face, as you ride along.

Nope, nothing like Canadian winters. We rarely get snow here. When we get snow, it's usually not more than a couple of centimeters, and they are pretty good about clearing roads and bike paths. There was one time this past winter that we were getting a snow storm and my DS had JUST started at his new school. This is a special education school for kids with Autism, ADHD, Oppositional disorder, etc....so it services the entire region and most kids are not from our town and are brought by bus. (We barely miss the 6km requirement for bus service) So by noon, all the taxi/bus drivers showed up at school to pick the kids up because they weren't going to be driving by the time they were supposed to get out. There were only 2 kids in my son's class who DON'T go by taxi. So they called me at work to come pick him up....they were closing early. And that is the only time ever that one of my kids got out for snow. We were lucky, because while it was snowing, the paths weren't bad yet....the worst thing was the wind. It was strong and frigid and we had to walk most of the way because DS was EXHAUSTED trying to pedal into the wind. And then I don't remember if it was that storm or not, but getting out of my neighborhood where they hadn't plowed was murder. DD fell off her bike before she was even off our street, so she ended up walking to school that morning. I can't walk to my work, but once I got out of our neighborhood it was fine and my husband took off work early to come pick the kids up from school. But that's such a rare thing. We usually get snow maybe....2 to 3 times a year, if that. When I first moved over here, we got a "big storm" that freaked everyone out...we'd have called it a dusting in Wyoming. I wanted to walk to the shopping district about 10 minutes away and my MIL about had a heart attack because "It's so slippery!! You can't WALK in this!! It's not safe!" And I was like "Please! If I stayed home every time we got snow like this back home, I wouldn't leave my house for 9 months out of the year. This is NOTHING!" I guess a few decades ago it might have been colder, but not anymore. It's gradually gotten warmer overall, so we don't get much snow.
