Where else do you go for vacation?

We usually stay in New England. I like going up to Newport for a long weekend in September. We'll be heading up to Salem, MA this year though. I've been to Arizona, down to Florida a few times without going to WDW (crazy, I know ) New Hampshire, Maine, California (for Disneyland...) Mystic, CT for the aquarium, sometimes Boston for the museums.
We're mostly a day-trip kinda family.

Most of my co-workers are cruise junkies and are constantly trying to convince me to go on one, but I'm terrified of boats... so that probably ain't happening. Though one of those co-workers has a time share in Aruba and is constantly trying to get people to take a week when he doesn't want to go (I don't really know why even bought it, but hey.) Maybe I'll take a trip there next year.

I agree with you about cruises, but I might be doing a Hawaii one in April - I have a very interesting possible deal....

My mom was all set to move to Hawaii after finally going a few years ago. Then my parents bought an RV. They go all over the place now!

If you can get a deal on Hawaii, definitely go. I mean, it's Hawaii

Yeah, that's pretty much the plan. We have a friend who's daughter just started working for Norweigan, and she'll be able to get some really good discounts, and we have 2 free tickets from SW which we'll use to get to Phoenix, so, knock on wood, we'll be there in April to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary! Just not too crazy about ships....

We go to lots of different places. I make at least one trip to WDW a year with friends, sister and DH doesn't go.
We've been to Hawaii lots of times, DC, NYC, Napa/Sonoma :slurp:, Gatlinburg, Ashville, NC, Keywest, Europe couple times, Singapore, Indonesa, & Hong Kong to name a few. My brother-in-law & wife life in Boca Raton so we visit them without going to WDW. We did a cruise once and didn't like it. The only reason we did that is because DH won it.

This thread was prompted by the "Can I Vent?" thread.
Friends of mine only go to WDW for vacation... to be fair, this year they are mixing it up by adding a trip to Disneyland. It's their money and time off and I enjoy reliving my trips with them, but where else do you go for vacation?

Rocky Mountains, Ozarks

Ooh, connections =)
Phoenix is great! My cousin and I went to visit our grandmother there, and the year after, my cousin transferred to to ASU because she loved it so much.

Just don't go out on deck..

I have a lot of nightmares about drowning. I don't even like swimming in a pool, nevermind going out in the ocean.
I'm a horrible Rhode Islander. I hate seafood and the beach.
I'm not a beach person either, but I do like to swim in pools.
DH's grandmother was a Titanic survivor, that might explain my fear a bit.

I do a lot of camping--I got a Texas State Parks pass, so I've gotta get my money's worth out of it! ;)

I've actually been pondering a camping trip to WDW at Fort Wilderness, but can't decide if I'd really want to sleep in a tent for a week and still have the energy to go to the parks!

Are you going for Halloween? I grew up the next city over from Salem. There is some cool historic spots to see. My favorite is a cemetary where Gov. William Bradstreet is buried. There are some great famous people there. Salem, Peabody and Danvers were all once considered Salem Village. I love American History. Where are you staying?

We camp around Maine and N.H. We have rented a house on the beach in North Carolina, once on Oak Island and once on Topsail Island. My in-laws have a place in western Maine that we sometimes visit for a week at a time. We go to Old Orchard beach in Maine for long weekends. We have done weekends in Boston and NYC and are currently planning our next 2 big vacations. First will be a week around DC next spring. The next one after that is to go out west and do Grand Tetons, Yosemite, Mount Rushmore, and all that loop. I think I have heard it called Monument Row? So it seems like we wont be able to do WDW again till about 2010 maybe 2011:( unless ofcourse we hit the lottery or something.

Was the irony intentional, or did you mean to drive Mr. Godwin's turnip cart into a wall?
Completely intentional.

Did you know there is a larger pro-independence movement in Hawai'i than in Puerto Rico?

Now you do :)

Thought it was, but nuance can be an issue in this medium.

And actually, I was aware of the independence movement in Hawai'i. It's still tiny compared to that of Alaska.

The Alaskans have (imo of course) the best case for secession, and the Alaskan Independence Party big and getting bigger each year.

And now you know. And knowing is half the battle.

Gotta love Seward's folly ;)

I was fully aware of their movement. But it's easier to compare Puerto Rico and Hawai'i to Puerto Rico and Alaska :)
