Where do you book your stay?

Just wondering where/how most people book their stay at WDW: through a travel agent, the WDWsite, somewhere like Expedia?

I was planning on doing it over the phone with WDW because I thought you might be able to request from a certain range of room numbers (because the unoffical guide lists room numbers of the best rooms) but it sounds like they don't actually give you a room number when you book, so is there an advantage to booking the room through WDW directly?

2013 this was for the holiday we have just got back from.imho no harm in a polite fax to the resort

There is no harm in it, but I would not rely on it as it is Disney's official policy to file faxed room requests in the circular file. You can call the DRC and add or change requests all the way up to your arrival date.

I have called WDW myself to book in the past, but it all depends on if you enjoy planning and the process of it all. Travel Agents, especially ones that are specific to Disney, are great assets to have if you don't know where to start. They can do everything for you and make things less stressful!

We always book direct through Disney over the phone. My wife just loves the planning process too much to use a travel agent.

I, too, love the planning process. I always book online, then call about 100 times to adjust days, promos, etc. We typically do room-only so it is not much of a hassle.

Plus, I look for any excuse to call and hear the hold music channel.

When you book online with Disney, is there a way to get your flight included in your vacation insurance? Do you need to already have your flight booked before booking your stay to do so?

If you are getting insurance through Disney, your flight is covered no matter if you get it through Disney or not. If you book a flight with Disney, you will have to pay for the flight in full at the time of booking.

We have always used WDWTC. I feel safer using them, plus, I've read others who have had problems with agents or agencies. I also feel as though by going directly through Disney I am getting the correct answer if I have a question. Plus, all the CM's I've dealt with have been super nice AND helpful.

Always used the same AAA agency and agent. Then this year the agent we had been using wasn't with the agency any longer, but the new agent we got with still had notes about our needs and likes so it came together easily. We stayed with them because we have been happy with the service we've gotten and relationship we've developed.
