Where did you get your IPOD?

Yeah you could use a P2P program.

Also, iPods dont just hold music. the news ones also hold files (any type) its like a portable hard drive. It also has programs and games on it.

Oh! Something I wanted to say here -- the iPod works out of the box via Firewire (or you can get an attachment so it will use USB 2.0)

Most Sony Vaio computers incorporate what Sony calls i.Link (they never call it firewire) but it is Firewire (a modified form) that works just fine for connecting an iPod to. Sony i.Link is actullay s400 Firewire (currently the fastest firewire protocol) but without the power supply.

What this means is you do NOT have to buy the USB 2.0 attachment for the iPod to hook it to a vaio desktop or notebook computer-- just use the i.Link port(s). You will still, of course, need to charge your iPod using the wall plug adapter though.

I'd also recommend that if you have an ipod but use Windows (instead of a Mac) like I do to get the software program Anapod Explorer. It's much more versatile than the ipod software that comes with the ipod and allows you to do much more with the machine. it's put out by redchair software and can be found on their website. much more user friendly and it opens up more features of the ipod than the apple software that comes with it.

i also have a creative nomad jukebox 3, and would recommend it as well. twice the size of the ipod, but longer battery life, an optical line-in for recording, and a few other good features.
both machines are good for their own uses, so I don't necessarily recommend one over the other.

enjoy your toy! they're great.

Sony i.Link is used on their newer cameras as well. All i.Link is is 4-pin Firewire. They dont use the term Firewire because they would have to give credit to Apple for it. The 6-pin firewire is what allows you to charge your iPod while you are downloading. Its a great technology apple has come up with. But if you have USB 2.0 on your PC/MAC and have the cable use it, you will be downloading faster then you would with Firewire.

thanks for all the info about the ipod but i don't think i'm going to be getting one.

I wanted one and it was going to be a very late b-day present that my parents where going to buy me but since you have to pay to get the songs i probably won't be getting one.

the reason is because my parents don't like the idea of paying for each song and i can't pay for it cause i don't have the money to pay for each song and i.I don't have a job because i'm only thirteen.

i hope you can understand that:lookaroun

HOLD YOUR HORSES!!!!!

YOU DON'T HAVE TO PAY FOR SONGS THAT YOU BURN FROM A CD, DOWNLOAD OFF OF KAZAA, YOU ONLY HAVE TO PAY FOR SONGS WHEN YOU BUY THEM, LIKE IF YOU BUY A BOOK OFF OF AMAZON, OFF OF THE iTUNES MUSIC STORE.

I have bought only 40 songs off of iTunes Music Store, but I have over 500 songs on mine that I bought the CDs for and such. The iPod comes with iTunes for Windows to copy songs from CDs to the iPod for you.

Exactly. You only pay if you want to buy songs from the iTunes Music Store or another online music service. Otherwise, you can use whatever CDs you've got or anything you want to buy. I never have bought anything off iTunes Music Store, but only because it won't connect for me for some reason. You take a CD, record it from either the bundled MusicMatch Jukebox software or the downloadable iTunes (I prefer iTunes), then connect your iPod to your PC through the firewall port if you have one (I do, but you can buy the USB adapter), and transfer the songs into the iPod. Easy as that. You can use Kazaa too if you need to, just import the songs to iTunes or MusicMatch, or another way is to put them on a CD-RW disc and do it the regular CD way. But YOU DON'T HAVE TO PAY FOR ANY MUSIC UNLESS YOU CHOOSE TO BUY SONGS FROM THE iTUNES MUSIC STORE. It's a great gadget and you should get one!:D

BTW, are the new iPods coming with iTunes software? When I bought mine iTunes for Windows wasn't available yet so I had to use MusicMatch until I could download iTunes for Windows. Just wondering!:)

Am I the only (mac using) person who finds this absolutely hilarious?!? All these windows people using Apple products, and becoming fascinated with the iPod when us mac users have had it for (for me at least) a year now.

I don't know, it just makes me laugh when I think about the mac vs. pc war. . .

Mine was a christmas present, and I'm pretty sure my mom ordered it through Apple.

By the way, for all you windows users out there, iTunes is now available for you guys. It's the only way to go when dealing with iPods. They were designed for each other. I wouldn't understand why anyone wouldn't use iTunes with their iPod.

Before getting my iPod, I had never considered getting an apple computer or anything like that, but my iPod has made me realise what a good company apple seems to be, I like their logic. I want my next computer to be an iMac ... they look amazing! When I first saw it, I couldn't believe that this was it...

I was like "But where's the box!?" For me, the old argument that a lot of windows software is not compatible with macs is no longer valid, as nowadays more and more manufacturers are producing pc and mac compatible software, and in the cases when they are not, you can buy virtual windows xp for the mac, which allows any windows program to be run on the mac :D .

I hear that Virtual PC is painfully slow.

Get a Mac, you won't regret it. I bought an iBook G4 in October and haven't looked back.

We had trouble getting our 3rd ipod from apple. We waited 3 weeks and they still kept setting back the shipping date. I cancelled that order and had it overnighted from McMall without any delay. You may pay shipping costs but no sales tax.
As far as the downloading music goes you can store your cd collection in them and create your own playlist. My daughter took her's to collage and left her cd's at home.

no.. lol. I've caused G4's to die on several occasions at my school. As a digital artist and photographer, I can honestly say that my PC is more suited for what I need than any mac is to date.

I agree....my PC runs circles around the G4's that are in the digital arts lab at my school. I've just been running photo shop on the macs and it will freeze for no reason.

(I-pods are overrated. You can get cheaper harddrive players that do the exact same thing.)

Well, yeah, what TYPE of G4? Is it just me, or do people just get stupid when they go beyond their normal PC relm. A 500mhz G4 is still a 500mhz G4. No megahertz myth or not.

My friends keep saying that other players are better, but through usage, I can't see myself using any other player.

when I was confronted with the options of what player to get, I took the Archos since after my employee discount at Best Buy it came to only $80 more than the 40 gig iPod, and it had the video screen and divx/xvid codecs preinstalled. It was a no-brainer.

I'll find out the processor speed of the computers in the Mac Lab(I don't know off hand). :) Regardless, my computer is really fast...3.06 ghz runs faster than most computers.

On a side note, let me offer my most sincere condolences on the loss of your grandmother.
