Where did all the restaurants go.

Has anyone noticed how many restaurants (in Epcot) that have been cut off the dining plan for next year? Almost half of them. Uhhh...that's a little crazy if you ask me. I wonder why.

Anyone venture a guess. BESIDES Greed!

Most of the restraunts in Epcot that aren't listed in the 2007 brochure are still in negotiations. Their contracts should be finalized within a month, according to CM I spoke with a week or so ago on the dining reservation number.

Where can I find the actual list. I have also been hearing about the Premium Dining Plan, but can't find anything on that either.

Thanks for any help.

Why/who are they negotiating with?

Basically, all the restaurants that were left off the list are independently owned (even those in World Showcase), i.e. Disney does not own and operate them (they are like shops in a mall, essentially).

Although I've heard two versions, one that, exactly as TwoTiggersMom said, the negotiations are ongoing, and two, that they negotiations weren't going as well and that to keep the price of the plan down Disney excluded them (so things like free dining don't cost quite as much for Disney).

The ongoing negotiations theory seems the most sound right now (though I'd love it if it was because they wanted to do more free dining, those places eliminated or not), but it is a bit curious that Disney would make the list offical at all yet, so far out, if it really is going to change that much.

It's also a possibility that it hinges on how Free Dining does this year.

I go thinking about this last night. So when we had a bad meal/service at one of the restaurants, it made no sense to go to Customer Service since they have no control over the service or food. The restaurant sent us to Customer Service, I guess we should have asked to speak to a manager or ask who the owner was so we could lodge a complaint.

I know this upsets those of you who want to use the dining plan, but as someone who NEVER books packages, yet ALWAYS eats at least one meal per day in a full service restaurant, it's good news.

It's been almost impossible to get walk-up or same day seatings, and difficult to get reservations, even 60 days out, because of this plan. On my upcoming trip, I'm planning on eating at the Swan & Dolphin restaurants, or other Boardwalk restaurants, rather than staying inside Epcot at dinnertime, because it's difficult to impossible to get in their restaurants.

I have relatives in the area who like to take spur of the moment trips to have dinner at Epcot and watch the fireworks. Not anymore.

It wouldn't help you, individually, resolve an issue for that particular meal, but would be noted when it was time for the restaurant and WDW to renegotiate the "lease."

I suspect that if WDW is getting a lot of complaints about a subcontractor they would find someone else to run the place.

I have a follow up question then. Do the folks who work in the resturants cast members or are they employeed by the subcontractor. The reason I am curious is that I know that we end up doing the most chatting with the servers at the Rose and Crown, and they are only there for 1 year on an exchange program.

Thanks for the helpful info. I love learning! Your never to old to learn new things!

I don't know which specific restaurants are totally owned/run by WDW, and which are contracted. I'm sure there are others here who can tell you.

I suspect (please note that I don't know for sure) that Rose and Crown might still be owned by WDW. WDW might also "supply" the international employees to the outside owners. ie, "we will provide location, international wait staff, and a steady stream of customers, while you will oversea day to day operations." I have no idea how the contract is really written, but can imagine it would be similar, with many more "fine points" and a ton of legalese.
