Where did all the Electrical Parade whirly units go?

Since WDW just inherited some of Tokyo Disneyland's day-time parade floats maybe they'll get some Electrical parade floats some day too

The number of units they retired in that parade could probably almost make up a whole parade for Disney World.

That was kind of my point, WDW is running these nearly 40 year old floats while TDL seems to come up with new ones fairly often, and TDL must have a lot of retired floats that are much newer than ones still running in the WDW parade

My neighbors Christmas light display makes WDW's look like complete crap.

And to be fair, Blue Fairy has been gone for quite a while now.

I couldn't remember if the Blue Fairy was still there or not, I know the circus bear is gone and the parade in general seems a lot shorter than it used to be

Honestly, they need to dump MSEP. That whole parade from start to finish is tragic. The ending with the american flap and the eagle is the worst - that is not a finale. This is no 1976. Please just get rid of it.
I've heard that comment before. I don't for the life of me understand why it would be offensive to anyone that was a US Citizen. It's isn't making any statement other then this is the country we are in. Why the hate? What would you suggest for a finale? A caboose perhaps?

Nope - to bring back Spectromagic from its grave
Well, just as you dislike the Electric Light Parade, I thought that Spectromagic was a huge waste of time and just a little creepy. Those guys in the white masks were completely unexplainable and the music was like a funeral march. So maybe it's best that it is buried. At least MSEP was upbeat and repeatable, but, it wouldn't hurt to get a new, really good nighttime parade. It's time to retire both.

Holy Shatner. Those comparisons are absolutely mental!

It would be interesting to watch a current day version along side it's first comeback version.

I am basically with you regarding the music. Every so often I youtube Spectro because people here talk so highly of it to see if I'm not remembering it well, but I don't personally see the love of the music and show. Obviously, there's a large amount of personal taste and that's fine, but I'm not really a fan of that kind of melodic orchestral music for a parade. I much prefer something more upbeat for parades -- I guess I picture something like a Sousa march as a "normal" accompaniment for a parade.

I think the Baroque Hoedown from MSEP is great for a parade, it's upbeat and catchy and the synthesized setup fits well with a nighttime light parade giving it a post-modern type of vibe. Admittedly, I'm not a music person, so I can't really explain very eloquently what I like. I wouldn't mind a brand new light parade -- or even a heavily refurbished MSEP with new units -- that uses Baroque Hoedown though.

It's pretty much a matter of personal taste but I personally prefer spectrmagic over msep. Baroque hoedown is cool but I get a headache after 5 minutes of it. I also love being able to sing along with spectromagic. Also think the floats in spectromagic were much better to look at and loved how they changed between white and colored lights. But again just my preference.

Good luck with Spectro, if that comes back I doubt it would all come back in one piece as we'll with all of its units. That's if those units even exist any more, there probably in landfills and what ever salvageable piece is left is probably hanging in an office or possibly on someone's backyard fence rigged to a 2 prong plug.

Agreed . MSEP music sounds like outtakes from an old Emerson,Lake & Palmer album.

The used to bring out the whirly bugs for the January marathon at mile 1 as you circled through Epcot, but when they changed the course and eliminated that loop in 2013, the whirlys went away.

We have seen each parade several times and we liked them both. As with anything Disney, the secret is to relax and enjoy it for what it is.

The average park guest will not know or notice if there are fewer dancers in a group or if a float or even a whole section of a parade is missing. It is an easy way to cut back on costs.

Even though I have stated above that I do tend to like Spectromagic a little better than MSEP, I do like them both. But I really liked when I could see Spectromagic at WDW and MSEP at Disneyland Resort.

The new Festival of Fantasy parade at Magic Kingdom is pretty good but my favorite parade so far is the Boo to You parade at Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party at WDW. I am looking forward to seeing the parade at Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party for the first time in December and who knows, maybe I will have a new favorite after that.

Rarely ever see the same show. There's something either missing or added each time. One viewing had no dragon, another no canopy in the Cinderella unit, another with the canopy, etc. I think it could be technical or availability of staff.
